Can read about Ohtani-adjacent here: Shohei Ohtani gambling scandal, explained: What to know about MLB's investigation in Dodgers star's interpreter | Sporting News That may not dispel conspiracy theories of under-rug sweeping. Because conspiracy theories exert an unusual form of gravity. They attract light-weight intellects.
American pro baseball has minor leagues for talent development. American pro football and basketball use (a subset of) colleges for that. This is a remarkable distinction, and I do not find it thoughtfully commented upon.
i think there is a junior hockey league in canada, but i suppose most pros come out of college. i have read that in most cases, baseball players are not 'ready for prime time' coming out of college, but football and basketball were getting drafted younger and younger, and rules had to be put in place. baseball is a very nuanced game, and may take more time to learn. i could be totally wrong about all this, but i don't mind shooting from the hip.
I see that the root word for fanatic is still 'fan.' That's a good thing. MLB needs all of those that they can get! A minor point from one who is obviously beneath the finer points of the game..... College baseball is a thing, especially in the SE. The farm teams for the majors are an interesting contrast with their counterparts in collegiate roundball and football, especially in this brave new world of name, image and likeness and transfer portals. 'The bigs' still draw fans, clicks, and MLB players still command eye-watering salaries. WITH THAT comes eye-watering prices for tickets, subs, etc which is why 'cord cutting' is getting to be such a 'yuuge' issue. AND THEN....there's Over The Air TV and ATSC - in what MAY BE the end of free over-the-air reception with ATSC-3.0.... Another 'conspiracy theory?' MORE disinformation? We will see Where will the MLB be in 20 years? Almost certainly NOT where it was in 1919 when the boyz in Chicago changed the color of their stockings - or 1989 - when Rose became a non-person. If I'm still around (and MLB is still around) I might listen into a game or two and find out.
there was talk of contraction a few years back, but then the money started to pour in. i'm not quite sure what happened, but some of the television contracts are massive
