the larger and more expensive the battery, the more protections manufacturers provide such as liquid heating and cooling, top and bottom buffers and etc.
imo, prius batteries have held up very well over the years. same with tesla, volt, bolt the old ford hybrids and more.
i suppose if you're looking for a car to hang on to for 20+ years with no major expense, an ev might not be your best option.

 

Yes, still waiting. Over the past few months there were two with my specs but some add ons I didn’t want about 45 minutes away at a huge, somewhat sleazy dealership. They have another one coming in a couple of months. No discounts yet.

My local dealership still hasn’t come up with one. I’m giving them until the end of the year otherwise might get the one coming in at the other dealership. Much easier for me to buy from my local dealership 15 mins away and more trustworthy but I can’t wait much longer.

Daisy, so much of this sort of thing is done on line; it isn't that tough to buy something a couple of states away. I'm in Ohio and my last VW came from NY and my first Toyota, a manual Corolla hatch that was pretty hard to find came from Chicago. If you look at the Toyota website "search vehicle" function, I think you'll find quite a few XLEs under sticker.

Edit to add: I think I just bought a new prius in the color and configuration I wanted at an OK price, but a couple of hours from me.

It's weird that such a common car isn't easier to locate and buy.
