That Engadget article has comments that entertain me. Seems every one is about aesthetics - something I care almost nothing about. It would have to be *really* ugly for me to consider not buying something I otherwise like - like as ugly as the nose on the Model 3.

Funny you say you don't like aesthetics and then you claim one of the most beautiful car designs produced by Tesla with help from Mazda is ugly simply because electric cars don't need a front grill.

Considering no specs or pricing have been released by Hyundai, it makes sense that most of the comments would be about the design. And while it’s certainly not a top priority for everyone (myself included), most people in the market for a brand new vehicle care about how it looks.

Wish the designers of increasingly uglier looking Prius knew that people care about how it looks. But then again if a new Prius didn't look so ugly they'd probably sell way less Camry and Corollas.

I've literally gotten more positive comments on the look of my Prime than I did on my show-car.

The Prime is different from the Liftback and it’s generally acknowledged that the Prime is the better looking Prius, even by media.

beauty is in the eye of the beholder. i'd take the look of an my over a prime any day. and the front ends twice on sunday.
even lexus has admitted as much about their grille complex.

but i defer to each individuals taste. prius looks certainly haven't influenced sales at all :ROFLMAO:

Watched the second vid above, and I'm impressed. Beautiful car! Features and ergonomics look great. For those mentioning that it doesn't have a hatch, well neither does a model 3, and it doesn't seem to hurt the sales of that car. This should easily go against the 3 wherever both are sold. Can they produce the 6 in big enough numbers to make a difference though? Oh, I don't like the looks of the back bumper below the trunk any more than I like the front bumper area appearance of my Prime just below the headlights. But that is just my personal opinion.

Or for that matter, any of the non-Tesla and non-China EVs?
    • Tesla plans for EV production over years in advance. They don't let purchasing carry the burden alone whereas the traditional car makers or less forward thinking and acting. Canibalism is what non-Tesla car efforts look like as they bid up the shortages.
    • China has another problem ... the old joke, "I lose money on every car sold." So how do you make a profit, "Volume." For real health problems with bad air, China had to switch to zero emissions transportation. But that switch has very low, if any, profits.
GOOD LUCK non-Tesla EV makers. You have a lot of hard problems to solve while bleeding capital and resources.

No hatch = no sale, model 3 included. It's too useful of a design feature that I use frequently.

That's why I bought an Ioniq 5 and have the PPrime for a second car.
The small increase in range for the more aerodynamic Ioniq 6 isn't worth the decrease in utility.

I like the Ioniq 6 styling; has a bit of a Porsche vibe.

Hyundai has been making the investments, but I didn't fond how that equals to number of EVs per year in a quick search.

Same with GM, and VW is building battery factories in Europe.

Have the range and charging speed specs being released?
And glad this is a car, not yet another SUV/Truck.

Not the range yet, but should be around 330-350. Charging 10%-80% in 18 minutes.

Not EPA but WLTP is close to 600km (and Korean ranges are 524km for the RWD with 18" rims. The Korean range figures seem to be closer to EPA).

Charging is 11kW AC or 240kW DC (same as Ioniq5 and all other E-GMP cars). 7.5 hours on 11kW, 58-70 minutes on 50kW (depending on battery size) and 18 minutes on 350kW DCFCs (peak is 240kW for the 77.4kWh battery. 180kW for the 52kWh battery)

Korea uses the two main EPA test cycles. Rules for pretesting and adjustments are likely different. They have only been testing fuel economy since 2005.

A sleek looking car with range in ballpark of the long range Tesla Model 3 that costs $15000 less will sell in droves

Note that the short range mode has 6 fewer kilowatt-hour than the Ioniq 5. So this might mean they were able to hit internal range targets with less battery and thus lower cost (even bough rely reports state that this will be priced above the Ioniq5). It could be lighter too with 1 module fewer.
