Today's only consolation bowl, in Nashville, had Missouri over Iowa 27 to 24, It also had a 100-yard kickoff runback by Iowa's Kaden Wentjen for TD. Don't see those every day. Four more consolation bowls w/in 24 hrs, then the fer-real bowls get going.
Nope. Not even every other day. I will be listening to the Bama-Michigan game with some interest - if possible. Watching may be beyond my grasp since I will be a working stiff. As far as the '25 CFP....I'm thinking that they're going to be ESPN games (CNN with a marginally capable sports desk) and thus I will catch any games that I might be interested in - post time. I would happily watch any games in real-time OTA.....but dot.gov seems to be leaning away from that - and more is the pity!
Among this year’s college football playoff teams, Georgia has had 62 bowl appearances, Texas 59, Ohio State 55, Penn State 53, Notre Dame 40, Oregon 37, AZ State 33, and Boise State (ID) only 22. So if this measure has meaning, Boise State is Cinderella. But they are now down 14 to 7 against Penn State in first half, a tight game presently. Three games tomorrow involving these other teams will reveal more.
31-14 Not sure what a 'Nittany Lion' is - but Penn roared. As did the Bayou Bengals. My beloved Pachyderms went down to last year's champs - but I was on the job and didn't get to watch. It's a 'good year' for the SEC in general in that they're going to have to deal with the flattening-out effect of the transporter system and NIL. I personally think it will usher in a Golden Age for all of the conferences rather than a Gilded one - and who knows? MAYBE somebody besides the military's trade schools will figure out WHY collegiate athletics are important in the first place? I got no 'favs' in the CFP but I will be watching Jawga with some interest. They dang near got beat by Kentucky and GTech, and they DID get beat by 'Bama and Ole Miss - but then...they beat Texasass...... Twice. Don't know about the O's. THAT will be a game that I might watch. The ducks and a bean. I'm a cord cutter though - and so my viewing options are limited to going to a bar or watching it via an illegal Yootube posting. SO.... Good Luck to all of tha teams! EVEN the Dogs and the Horns.
Most US cord cutters - (non cable users) - cannot watch any of the games. ESPNs and the NCAA's unholy alliance means you will have to pony up to watch any of the games. In basketball they have done the same thing but wait until the semifinal and championship games to make you pony up money to see. Guess it's fitting - schools need to pony up to get the best players - people need to pony up to watch the games. Both the NCAA and ESPN are doing quite well now but will have hard times if people decide they have better things to do than pony up the cash. Do understand economics and realize the NCAA and ESPN are still trying to find the balance between finance and value to the customer and may fine tune the playoffs even more to maximize profits and perceived value to the customer - they seem to be doing fairly well now. For me they 'jumped the shark' with the playoff system and pay for view system. Just one fellows opinion here, nothing more.
So it is. I content myself with ESPN gamecasts (w/video highlights). In some cases full play by play coverage on radio stations that allow themselves to leak to world internet (most do not )
If your overlords allow you to tube, sometimes one can find legitimate simulcasting, essentially in audio only (from the broadcaster's booth) I was lucky this season and got to watch MANY of the games I was interested in OTA - because college athletics are still able to charge networks a butt-ton of money. This is because many (most?) Americans do not bother with antennae and cables, instead paying three figures to a provider for the convenience of not having to learn antenna theory and wave propagation. ESPN, I believe, paid for the broadcast rights for many of the CFP games - so I might have to listen in or see if some YouTube channel gets away with streaming them.
Sugar Bowl (Notre Dame X Georgia) is postponed 24 hours because of vehicle X crowd smash on Bourbon Street.
Unfortunately, it's a slightly larger event than a truck-versus-some pedestrians event. 10 dead (some by gunfire) and 35 hospitalized. More than one perp and the Febes said almost immediately that it was an act of terror. Frankly I'm not surprised that they kicked the game to the right by 24 hrs. If it were me I'd have them play at Tulane....... ...this weekend.
In the Rose Bowl, Oregon played a remarkably poor 1st half. Ohio State, the opposite. Ducks will need to fly not waddle from here. Peach Bowl earlier needed overtime for the Sun Devils to set.
Two-pt conversions and sacks sacks sacks. AZ State's running back Skattebo (also known as the Viking) threw a long pass. Cam!
Not happy about the gloating but it seems unavoidable. Gloat = greatest loss of all time, which this one ain't.
A dubbaya is a dubbaya. The O's (both of them!) have a proven track record, against opponents - ALSO with proven track records. The GOOD news for the Ducks is that their 13-1 season will draw money and talent. Nature abhors a vacuum, and sports leans away from 'perfect seasons' because you learn MUCH more from your defeats! (IF you're worthy.) In Telecommunications we always say that if you never F-up on the job - you're not working hard enough!
By my count there are 31 consolation bowls, with one last to be played tomorrow, Bahamas Bowl. Some of those must have been fun to see. Besides the main event, FCS exists. Football Championship Series I guess. It is persistent alternative to National Championships, concluding Jan 7 between ND State and MT State. From Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State and Texas, one will become National Champs on Jan 20. Will all these others become zero then, or ...
They SHOULD but there will be a notional '#1' this fall during week 1 with zero snaps. That's sports.
