And those wheels need some crush space behind them to prevent cabin intrusion. I had a cross the street neighbor who was in an accident and I went to see the car just out of curiosity. The wheel had intruded into the cabin enough that there was a dent on the seat structure right where it might be very painful. Structures have come a long way since then

If you thought the RAV4 Prime was hard to get, at least dealers were responding to me when I inquired about the RAV4 Prime. Toyota's web site now features the bz4x and when I filled out the form for dealer contact for 3 different dealers not a single one even responded.

They'll respond if they think they can get you to pony up another $12K over sticker!

I'd agree in most cases, but traditional car dealers and BEVs tend not to mix.

And one of our local dealers already has a bZ4X listed in transit. AWD Limited, Windchill Pearl and black roof, with Black Softex. And it has every available package.

So perhaps a dealer has to install a charger and train mechanics and buy special "tools" before they can sell one. And those chargers aren't cheap.

Pretty sure if they sell the Prius Prime and RAV4 Prime they have everything they need. I know all of the local dealers have chargers and diagnostic equipment for those vehicles. A bZ4X would be even simpler IMHO.

The Primes don't have DC charging, and I don't think the Rav4 EV did either.
Nissan was requiring dealers to have CHAdeMO chargers installed to sell the Leaf. Toyota could be doing the same, but I think it's more likely dealers don't want to sell the BEV, or they simply won't have them anytime soon.

At the prices dealers are asking for cars like the RAV4 Prime I can just buy an extended range Model 3. I can't understand why people are willing to pay as much for 45 miles of range as 300 miles of range. The nice thing is the Model 3 isn't vaporware.

It's not really vaporware. It's primarily a compliance car right now, but hopefully not forever as chip manufacturing & traction pack manufacturing picks up. But yea ..... not only can we NOT buy one in the state we retired in, we can't buy one in any of the 4 states that surround us. And if you want it fully optioned? Then the wait went from long - to really really really long. Too bad.

What you are saying might be hard for some to believe but I can vouch for what you said. In 2019 I wanted to buy a New Prius Prime and Southeastern US Toyota District would not sell one to me They said they don't sell that car. At the time I found it unbelievable. They would not even accept an order for one. Sure I could have ordered or bought one out of state but after that interaction I was so put off I actually bought another Automakers PHEV offering from a Dealer 50 miles from our home.

Good luck finding either. They are happy to take your order but want something in a few months and be prepared to massively compromise your wants and pay extra. Then you get to find a mechanic with any training on the EVs or chargers for the dealers for the Toyota.

I've bought two cars outside the SET area even though I live in NC. Worth a 250 up and 250 back trip.
