Featured 2023 Prius spy shot

    Yes. And, everybody, in any sort of car can do this. In a lowly 2010 Prius hybrid, we're only putting in 20~25 liters, every 2+ months, due to yearly kms accumulation of just over 3000 kms. Dead simple.

    Appreciate not everybody can trim the miles like that, but at least consider reducing usage. For an example, say you're going downtown for a show: want to avoid the stress of night driving, and dealing with parking? Take transit?

    Was this fixed after the 2017 Prime?

    The reason I ask is below 55 F, the EV mode lowered the threshold so the engine would come on enough to piss me off.

    I'm loving the redesigned Prius....eagerly waiting to see the interior changes, too. If the spy photos from the rear are true, I'll hate it but you can't have everything!

    Hopefully the AWD versions will have more ground clearance...if not, it's pretty easy to buy a lift kit to get it 1-2 inches higher. And it's a huge NOPE, for me, if they try to put those low profile tires on them. I know a guy with a 2022 Avalon XSE Hybrid and he's had two flats on those tires already! (It ran him $50K but it's a beautiful car....he's getting 45 mpg)

    The reason (partially) my wife and I have two hybrids with vastly different EPA and actual MPG capabilities. And my son will have three hybrids and the plug in for his trips to work and others.

    Not every job is a fit for the same tool.

    Yeah I've thought the same thing, an EV for around trip, a gasser for vacation. But we barely need one car. And the extran insurance, depreciation, maintenance costs, parking, ugh...:confused:

    There is a discussion about it here, but it's how it was from the beginning.

    The gist of it. In Europe, and likely elsewhere, EV mode is the EV Auto North America got. Instead of EV Auto, they got a City EV. That was designed ICE exclusion zones in some cities. Some it prioritized EV, but would fire up the engine when floored. IIRC, it didn't use both motors in order to stretch the EV miles.
    It's just me, so single PHEV would be prudent. But having 2 cars wouldn't be a burden. Instead of compromising, I'll get two to fit the two uses I have for cars. Something comfortable for trips with space for hauling some stuff, and a small BEV for the commute. The Outback fits the first role. Once it has racked up some miles, I'll start looking for the BEV.
    That's why I buy most cars used. The Outback was, but with very low miles. Originally, its role would have been filled with something with over 30k miles. If Chevy had announced the 2023 Bolt prices sooner, I'd have kept the Camry, and filled the commuter role first.

    Yep, insurance rates seem to be creeping higher and higher and I expect more with the hurricane ripping through Florida. With retirement coming in a few years, we'll go back down to just two...the pickup and the Prius. A pickup is too valuable to ever go without....and there's something women like about a pickup man! :)

    Had it been like that, I would have been less frustrated with our Prime. Instead, it was traded in for a Tesla Model 3.

    Has someone shared a patch to get the EU enabled for North America?

    This sales pamphlet says it's limited to 53kW in City EV, which is just M/G2.

    So lower top speed and acceleration. Plenty for the low speeds of a city center. Just likely means the engine ends up coming on more often when on faster roads than when using EV mode.

    No new changes other than the Japanese media is tamping down expectations of fuel efficiency to around 30km/L (71mpg) WLTC. IMHO the front end looks suspiciously similar to the, as yet, unannounced Crown Sport. They also nailed down the retention of the lift back. (y) Release looks to be around January 10th time frame.

    Still no word on final design of the Prius PHV (Prime) but they are comparing it to the bZ3.

    What a nice, basic headlight design. I’m surprised they didn’t go further, make it twice as skinny, give it fangs or summit. I mean why not? :ROFLMAO:

    I've driven mine down to about -12F without the engine starting (had to go with seat heat for that).

    My engine hasn't started since Memorial Day.

    Looks like a Gen 3 profile and taillight with a Gen 4 mirror, A-pillar and front window glass.

    Also, the 90s called and they want their front design back.

    I also prefer the traditional rear door handles, over the CH-R style in the other spy shots… we’ll see which one ends up coming through.

    Curious to see what the rear looks like in this latest iteration. I agree the back corner looks like a Gen 3, which wouldn’t seem to align with the long thin tail lights design leaked earlier (which seemed overly plain, IMO).

    Would be nice if Toyota releases something official soon…. o_O

    Yeah, at first look the shine looked like a door handle to me, but I looked closer and on second thought I agree that looks like window trim. Also, I misunderstood the earlier post thinking it was the new Prius, but is in fact another BZ model, it is posted on Toyota Global. Interesting spoiler on the roof too.

    Seems to be only on the Global site and not North America, so perhaps an Asian vehicle for now?

    The spoiler looks like a couple of vortex generators. To keep air from spilling off the sides of the hatch, perhaps.

    I've never had a case where the gas engine came on unexpectedly unless I did something stupid like accidently hit the rear or front defrost button, or hit the EV Auto / HV buttons somehow. I've even been at -16F and it didn't go on by itself unless the charge was very low. There must have been something wrong with your car for the gas engine to trip at 55 degrees F.
