Some say plugging in is too drastic for the average driver. The MT reviewers were expecting to dislike the yoke and steer-by-wire, but came away likely how it worked on a closed course. Well, they wanted to see steer-by-wire with a steering wheel, but it sounds like most of their yoke complaints were mostly just because it was different.

Grin I discovered that years ago, and use it all the time. Too tiny for gloves. There was no way I could press just one button. (BTW, the rental car was not a Toyota, but a giant Lincoln SUV.)
I hope Toyota realize that Prius is more appropriate this day and age. My local dealer has a BZ4X already sitting on the lot for over a week Jim, the new toyota dealers guy also listed a BZ4X more than $2k off MSRP That just shows that without EV tax credit, Toyota EVs are just a sucky proposition and people know that. I think hybrid still has a healthy life span and Toyota needs to gradually increase the volume
The problem for the Prius is that Toyota and others have increased the selection of hybrids. Part of the reason for its high sales in the past was because it was literally the only option.
That's true, but I surely think this 5th gen struck gold with its look, luxury features. I was going to get a Crown but after seeing ventilated seats as an option on Prius, definitely won me there
This review convinced me to hold off on buying one (6% financing rate hurts too). Their main negative points are: Poor visibility: back is missing the vertical window, and the driver side A pillar is huge and blocks the view Not enough headroom in the back seat (my take is this kills the new Prius as a Uber car, at least in the US) Worse MPG than EPA estimates Annoying loud engine, loud cabin noise at high speed Harsher ride ("sportier" handling) Both reviewers preferred the older gen Prius over the new one! It seems like the new Prius is having an identity crisis and trying to be a sporty sedan, but gave up a lot of the things that made the Prius what it was (and made people like the older gen).
This is about the only significantly negative review I've seen. Nearly every other review is quite positive. Poor visibility: In looking at videos, it looks like the visibility is about the same as my current car (Audi A6), and I suspect many other cars out there. The 2023 isn't horrible compared to other sedans. It's probably about average visibility from what I've seen. Headroom in back seat. Again, they are overblowing it significantly. This differs from other reviewers. There's a YT reviewer from KBB who is 6' 4" and he fit just fine: Are your regular guests 6' 8"? Maybe only then you might want to be concerned. Worse MPG. It looks that way unfortunately. I've been waiting to see MPG test videos (only seen one) since the initial reviewers were probably heavy on the gas. How would a regular prius driver drive it? But yes, so far from what I see, 2-3 MPG less for XLE. For the LE, uncertain - but guessing the same. Still quite good mileage. The only cars the beat it have substantially less power. Annoying loud engine: Probably about the same as the current Prius'. Keep in mind these reviewers are getting on it a lot which isn't the typical driving habit. With the gen 3 I had, the engine was annoyingly droney when I got on it. I expect the newer Prius to be much better because of it having more power means I'll need to get on it less and thus overall less noise. Harsher ride: This is for the XLE which has 19" wheels. Far from a luxury setup. I'd put this mostly on the wheels. The LE with 17"s and more rubber sidewalls should be a lot nicer.
I wouldn't much stock int the MPG a reviewer got on a test drive. Too many variables to consider. the most important being that they are likely driving aggressively to test it out.
Has anyone spotted a 2023 Prius Prime review from Japan (it was released there yesterday) on Youtube or some other channel, or any article about it (even in Japanese)?
On the check back seat minder, it isn't sensor in the seat. The car just keeps track of the fact the back door was opened before starting the trip. At least in the Subaru. It should be possible to turn it off in the settings.
not sure which is worse, the hub cap or the wheel. i disagree on the 12v, i'd prefer it was buried instead od taking up real estate, but maybe because the hatch floor is lower? wow, that hatch looks really narrow!
The floor is lower. Without a spare tire to hide, Toyota just made it all open cargo space in the LE. I understand GM had done the same with the Bolt. Got rid of all the parts that formed a raised floor and under floor storage in the Sonic for open space. The higher trims get a storage tray with cover that puts a floor at the hatch height.
got my LE Saturday, learning curve , guess it will take time to get used to. My 2018 Prius was totaled by a PA dear - so the 2023 was not so expensive with the insurance check ! its a cool car, much sleaker than the last model, but wait till there is millions of them on the road - only complaints so far - wish they had something to make it a little more ding proof - will have to be very careful parking, and no spare but a jack ?
