Also - any Canadian prime owners? I got my SE today and it chimed me for front cross traffic and for looking away for too long (I was watching a long line of cars waiting to turn)

But... The spec sheet says the SE isn't supposed to have either of those features. Maybe the spec sheet is just wrong. After all, you need that camera if you sign up for drive connect for stuff like TJA.

Kinda wish I got the not on spec sheet parking support brake instead. Only higher trim feature I thought would be nice but not enough to have tried to do spend more on.

 

Don't know how to edit but small update.

The spec pdf sheet didn't show the driver camera as included, the website does.

Neither shows FCTA, so unless there are two types of FCTA, the Canadian SE does have FCTA of some sort

 

Newbie question about the Prime Gen V regarding Battery Cooling.

The user manual says on page 109 that, “When the hybrid battery is hot and the AC charging cable is connected to the vehicle, this function cools the hybrid battery before charging is carried out.”

The AC charging cable is described in all previous sections as the L1 120v AC cable included with the vehicle.

The Battery Cooling section last paragraph states: “When the charging voltage is 120 V, the function does not operate.”

I’m confused, can anyone tell me if it does or does not function? Thanks

 

Turns out, fun fact - the Canadian Prime SE does in fact also have lane change assist for speeds 100km and higher when using DRCC. The Toyota.ca spec summary says it doesn't have it either. So that's an interesting discovery.

Well that's nice. If you notice above, I also point out the Canadian prime has lane change assist. On toyota.ca it isn't supposed to.

 

To be fair I tested it at 80 then 100, not yet 90.

And yep, car changed lanes no issues. I was also surprised lol but I saw it in the car settings so figured might as well try it on a not busy afternoon

As for FCTA, foot off brake, cars coming as i creep forward to later turn and it will beep, show the little arrows telling me where the car is coming from. Does the same in parking lots where it's probably the most helpful when pulling out from beside a big SUV.

 

Maybe some Gen 5 owners in Florida will know already, but this is not a good time of year for many new Gen 5 owners to test and know for sure how to answer your question.
I'd suspect that if battery cooling needs 240 volt Level 2 charging to function, that it might not work at all if / when plugged into 120 volt Level 1 charging scenarios. I can only imagine that since the Gen 5 Prime battery cooling systen uses liquid battery cooling, that it might need more power from the charger to work.

 

It's in the car settings too. Funny how that happens.

 

Gen 4 and Gen 5 both use the A/C to cool the battery, but Gen 5 seems to have an additional evaporator because the battery is not inside the car like in Gen 4. So, in terms of the A/C power usage during battery cooling, Gen 4 and Gen 5 should be about the same.

 

Maybe they do use the same amount of power, even if I did have a Gen 5 Prime there's not way I could test that this time of year, anyways.

 

I wonder if you can order the 17'' wheels on the higher trim models from the factory. I hate losing MPG due to the 19'' wheels on the higher level trim packages.

 

You could always get your own aftermarket too. That what I did. I didn't do it for the added MPG although that's an added bonus. The ride is less harsh, you have a much wider selection of tires to choose from, and I like the peace of mind of having more sidewall between the wheel and the road.

 

Hey guys I feel stupid but I really can’t figure this out: how do I activate heated side mirrors?

 

I’m looking into this as well. May I ask which wheel/tire setup you went with? I’m leaning towards 205/60R17 as it appears to be very close to the 19” OEMs (reference: )

 

I went with MSW WHEELS TYPE 42 from Discount tire. I tried to find 205/60 R17 but they only have one tire available in that size and it's a discontinued model. So I went with 215/60 R17 for my winter set. In hindsight, it's too large so when I switch to an all season tire later this month, I'll go with 215/55 R17. Thinking about trying the Goodyear ElectricDrive.

 

I have 215/55R17 for the winter set. That's between the circumference of the standard 17" and 19" (closer to the 17").

I would have gone with 205/60R17 if I could have found them, preferring narrower and closer to 19" circumference, but they seem as rare as 195/60R17.
