    Hi Eaglesight:

I just got my Prime, I've had it not quite a week yet. To Answer your questions:
    1. I like the displays. Size and readability are great (I have the 12" main display). With all the reviews I was worried about being able to see the main display, but both my wife (5'6") and I (6'0") can see it fine over the steering wheel with no issues. For the dealer, I said that was really the only possible deal breaker and it turned out not to be an issue at all. I "upgraded" from a Gen1 Prius and must confess I kinda miss the center main display, but will get used to it pretty quickly.
    2. Again, another "fit test" concern, but not an issue for my wife or i. I suspect the added height offered by the moon roof helps. I can't sit upright in the back seat, but that was kinda expected as that is a lot lower than my older car. I can sit if I slouch a bit.
    3. Hinge is toward the back and opens up a bit more than 90 degrees.
    4. The manual says it can play flash drives if plugged into the one "not just power" USB port. Haven't tried it.

Hi Drash, I just got my Prime, only had it 6 days so far, so can answer some of your questions:
    1. No spare for the prime. That feels weird to me.
    2. They say 4 hours for L2, I'm only using L1 though.
    3. Some reviewers (car care nut) says the battery is liquid cooled. Only have that to go on.
    4. Yes on charge mode. needed it for the test drive as the big batter was empty at the dealer!
    5. Not sure relative to the RAV4, but compared to my Gen1 Prius (97HP), a LOT peppier, way too much fun for a Prius!! :)
    6. Rear view is pretty bad relative to my old car. Wish I had the digital RVM, but beggars can't be choosers.
    7. Not sure on cold cutoff
    8. 12V, 1500W, two outlets, but the one in the main cabin is only 2-prong. Luggage area one is 3-prong.

The battery is cooled by refrigerant from the heat pump. Don't know if it can also warm the battery too. The car still has the freeze protection electric heater for it.

Does anyone know if the Digital rear view mirror is plug and play? My soon to be delivered Prime XSE is missing that as an option (loaded with most every other option though) and I kinda want one.

Just wondering how big of a project this is to install after the fact if not installed at the factory and the rough cost?

For those that do have the Digital rear view, worth it or no?

Blizzard: In my "beggars can't be choosers" mode I did take the Prius the dealer offered me and the DRVM was one of the options on my "would really like it, but ain't gonna pass on a car without it" list. I asked at the dealership and they said best way to find out was to ask at the parts desk. The guy spent 5+ minutes hunting on all sorts of screens without any success. Not a great data point, but far from conclusive. It could just be scarce like everything else. Not giving up yet. Not in any way regretting snagging the car I got either! Way to much fun for a Prius. Here's hoping your car arrives as promised. If I could have chosen a color it would have been white or red.

Is $2200 worth it to you? That's the price just in parts using OEM equipment.

I believe this is the complete parts list. It's possible it might also need some additional wiring.
    Mirror:
$2,349.76 - 87840-0W510 MIRROR ASSY, INNER REAR VIEW, INSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR-DIGITAL INNER MIRROR

    Cover for the windshield:
$15.69 - 86467-47020 COVER, FORWARD RECOGNITION, NO.2, INSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR-DIGITAL INNER MIRROR

    Mirror wiring harness:
    $232.85 - 82171-4E600 WIRE, ROOF, NO.1, INSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR-DIGITAL INNER MIRROR

Camera assembly in the rear hatch:
$341.25 - 867C0-30040 CAMERA ASSY, INNER MIRROR, RR, INSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR-DIGITAL INNER MIRROR

    Actual camera itself:
$236.41 - 86790-47190 CAMERA ASSY, TELEVISION, RR, INSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR-DIGITAL INNER MIRROR

    Total(MSRP): $3,175.96

You should be able to find 31% discounts off MSRP pretty easily, so that comes to roughly $2200 plus tax.

Is it worth it from the factory? I would say no. I have it because it was included with the package to get the Panoramic View Monitor(which I do think was worth it). The only time I think the DRVM might be worth it is in the winter when the rear window is iced over hard and I don't feel like scraping it or waiting for the defoggers to work their magic. With DRVM, I'll be able to see behind me even with the rear window completely obstructed.

But other than that, I'm not liking it. It messes with my eyes focusing during the day. I just tried it tonight for the first time at night on the highway and it was terrible. Even when there was nothing behind me to display, the LCD screen displayed just enough light to mess with my night vision(like how you can tell the difference between a laptop monitor that's displaying a black screen vs. one that's powered off completely). I think it might be not that bad if you're doing all your driving in town with lots of lights and traffic, but I'm finding it useless in rural and highway driving.

Wow. Yeah, def not worth 2k+!

Thanks much for the input. Had no clue it was that expensive to retrofit. It was an option on the limited non prime that I was looking at prior to opting for the prime. I don’t recall it being that much at all as a factory option, I think it was only a couple hundred bucks although I could be wrong.

Plus the as stated above “ objects may appear closer than they are” doesn’t seem to bode too well either. Case closed, no Digi rear view for me :)

I have the Digital Review Mirror as well as the Panoramic View and Backup Camera setup. The mirror does let you set the zoom level of the mirror from very narrow to quite wide. I have tried to make it equivalent to the real mirror. Note that you can flip to the real mirror using the lever that normally hadles switiching to the bright light filter on a normal mirror

I do find that I do need to change the focus of my eyes to see images in the digital mirror clearly. But I never want to stare at the mirror--when doing a quick check behind, the slightly fuzzy image is good enough. If I am actually backing the car up, the large images on the 12" screen are what I use.

Note that with the camera images provide for view to the rear, both via the mirror and the rear view large image when the car is in 'R', I never actually look through the rear window, or use a mirror image from that window. So it's clarity is mostly irrelevant.

Thanks Hammersmith and aforkosh. As a factory option it was pretty cheap and seemed a cool thing to try knowing the regular mirror was there as a backup. No way it would be worth $2,200 and based on your reports, doesn't sound that great anyway.

Yeah, my view going in was if it happened to be on the car or not, I wouldn't mind either way. But since PVM was a deal breaker for me, I ended up not having a choice.

I put off buying a replacement for my 2012 because I loathe the look of the gen 4. My gen 5 is on the way.

Thank you so much for the link. I also downloaded the manual. Back in 2001 when I ordered my first Prius, they snail mailed me the manual (and some other swag) during the 3 months it took to get it. I must have memorized the thing over the months I was waiting for it. This brings back good memories.

Yea, I downloaded the manuals for the Gen5 back in early May and started reading them. When a car was finally available a few weeks ago, it was entertaining having me telling the sales guy things about the car instead of the other way around. I still re-read the manuals once I got the car so I could physically touch the stuff I was reading about. There is a LOT to understand and just book reading only goes so far.

I agree. I wanted to read about seat settings on my limited that is coming. It may be a challenge having a car that is smarter than I am.

Sharol: Yea, compared to my 2003 Gen1, this car is a WHOLE lot smarter. I'm still trying to get used to the car scolding me, it was normally the other way around! There do seem to be two kinds of reprimands though, one where it says why it's yelling at you (via the display), but there does seem to be another class that just beeps at you without saying why. Still sorting those out.

My bestie bought a 2022 Prius. She likes it a lot, but wishes it was red.

Does anyone know how to hide the km/h on top of the ml/h on the dashboard?? it's kinda annoying to have two of them on the dashboard.
