I was thinking maybe the 2023 requires a different size lug nut wrench but it’s standard size?
I’m not sure if new car comes with plug for towing. Thanks

Fair points… i feel like my Toyotas have all used the same size nuts- some of them, 4 per wheel, some 5, but i may be wrong.

The 2023 uses a 21mm lug nut just like the 2009, and a towing eyelet comes with the car.

Make sure it is the right size wrench for the new car.

Good point, and the roof is about the worst possible place to add needless weight, from a handling standpoint.

2022 models with compressor/slime included jack and lug wrench IIRC.

check this post for jack/wrench part nos, prices. Think there’s cheaper:

still, if I was shopping I’d exclude any vehicle without a spare.

For the first time ever, I pulled up my trunk mat, then my trunk cover, revealing the unimpressive white foam "organizer". I was half-expecting to see a spare. I did not. I could have swore the LE's had a spare. In fact, I could almost swear that I checked an LE out at the dealership and it had a spare. Was I dreaming? Anywho... I got the goo too. :censored:

I know…the white foam organizer is cringe worthy. White foam in area where car tools are stored. The Corolla Cross Hybrid gets gray foam and supposedly a real leather steering wheel. WTH

So is there a jack and lug nut wrench as well as compressor?

Thanks for confirming one way or the other.

All I saw was a pump, box of goo, and tow thingy. There were some empty slots where other items might have gone. Perhaps Toyota will send those later if we request such?

Foot note in the manual makes it sound like it is not included.

Mine was the same as Preebee. Eyelet, compressor, goop.

From what I’ve read here, no scissor jack or lug nut wrench. 2022’s with goop kit at least had those tools.

    Death by 1000 cuts?

Sigh. Ok, at some point it’s Princess auto/Canadian Tire for a scissors jack and lug nut tool. Thanks.

I won't lose any sleep over it. I'm convinced the LE is the best bang for the buck automobile on the planet - spare or no spare.

Strategy is already in place if I ever have a major puncture and don't catch it in time to have it repaired. Step #1 - Call Toyota Roadside Assistance (free for two years). ;)

Some answers based on my experience and digging into this for quite some time.

Toyota's statement about a spare in the US. (Spoiler, NO Spare on any config)
    https://support.toyota.com/s/article/Does-the-Prius-come-e-10467?language=en_US

Does the 2023 Prius come equipped with a spare tire?

All US market 2023 Prius vehicles are equipped with a tire puncture repair kit, located under the rear cargo deck. A replacement tire puncture repair kit is available for purchase from your local Toyota dealer.

There is no jack or lug wrench supplied either, just the goo, compressor and tow eyelet, and a huge amount to Styrofoam to store them in (and more critically, to support the floor of the hatch area)

A video that shows a factory spare, the only pictures that I've ever seen. Although they say "Full Size Spare", it isn't, it's a full diameter, but not the same width as the standard tire.

I got my spare, including the lug wrench, jack, and hold down bolt used off of ebay for $179.99+Tax, they all came from a 2019 Toyota C-HR. This is the exact listing that I purchased. This was ideal because it also had Toyota OEM tools, and it's the T145/90D16 tire on a 16" wheel with the correct bolt spacing. I was lucky to find that complete OEM set all from the same car.

The styrofoam that I bought to construct the floor support around the spare.
    R-Tech 2 in. x 48 in. x 8 ft. R-7.7 EPS Rigid Foam Board Insulation 310891 - The Home Depot

"Some assembly required", that's the hard part. What I did was not a simple finished product you could purchase.

Is this for the LE model? Has anyone tried and succeeded at this modification? Would really like to know if a) anyone was able to order everything successfully and b) this list is verifiably accurate? Thanks for any info!

No one has tried it so far because Toyota hasn't yet released the parts. I'll probably wait a couple more months before trying again. My next regular service will be Oct 1-ish, so I'll likely wait until then and pester the parts guys while I'm waiting for my car to be done.

I posted an updated list of parts in this thread: OEM spare tire install | PriusChat
(the board doesn't let you update posts beyond a certain window of time, so go to the end of the thread and work back to find the most current itemized list)

There are a few extra parts the LE needs if you want a perfect OEM conversion. You might be able to get away without them with some mods. No way to know for certain until the parts are available and someone tries it.

The list comes from the same info the parts counters at the dealerships have(MicroCat parts software). I'm attaching the pdf source files below so you can see where it all comes from. The second pages of each can be a little hard to understand. Here are the basics...
    Model Codes:
    MXWH - Prius/Prius Prime with the M20A-FXS 2.0L engine
    60 - Prius HEV FWD
    65 - Prius HEV AWD
    61 - Prius Prime PHEV
    E - base trim(LE/SE)
    G - mid trim(XLE/XSE)
    H - top trim(LTD/XSE+)
So a FWD LE would be a MXWH60..E, and an AWD LE would be MXWH65..E.

The local dealership parts dept was able to look up most of the parts for creating a spare tire kit. He said the right and left deck boxes and nuts were not showing up as available and he thought the spare wheel protector numbers were different. From what you are saying the AWD does have the space for spare, right? It’s not like the 2022 that had the AWD components in the way?
