It reminds me of the Ford Maverick hybrid truck we tried to get a few years back. The wait wasn't quite as bad as the Prius prime but it got to the point where we decided, we're either gonna wait 6-9 months for it or get something else. We got s Subaru forester and are very happy we did. Now I'm waiting for the Prius prime. I traded in my 2022 Prius limited and got top dollar since I was willing to sell it to them before the prime comes in. Fortunately we have a second car. Been waiting 3 weeks and was told it's at the dock and will be another 2-3 weeks. Not confident in their information but apparently their information is about 90 percent accurate. If it's thanksgiving and I haven't gotten it yet, I will get something else.

Hmm very interesting. I wondered if they would try to sell the one that comes in versus the one I put the deposit on.

That's what I'm doing so we'll see. I was told 3-4 weeks and that's what it's been. Asked and was told another 3-4 weeks so have little confidence but I am a patient person.

Looking at the price of the Prime, there's no way I could buy a new one. I don't think I'd buy a used one either. :(

It's not like your current Prime is swimming cargo space.:)
Between the two, the gen4 might come out ahead, but the gen5 effectively has the same space as the hybrid version.

they lowered the hatch floor and made it narrower, especially the opening. that was a death blow for me

That's an issue with the issue with the hybrid. If the Prime was like the previous model, you'd lose several suitcases worth of space on top of that.

Well, the local dealer was not that far off.

After almost two years on the waiting list, I got word towards the end of November 2024, that a VIN had been secured and allocated to the dealer. Sure enough, since I was next on the list, the unit arrived on the very last day of January.

Of course, I used one of the Gen 1 Primes as a trade-in which means I can sort of compare side by side what the commuting experience looks like through some seat time as well as numbers I see.

One thing I should note: As a 2024 unit, it came with a set of Michelin Primacy All Season tires and I was mightily impressed by their performance on ice and snow. Almost indistinguishable from a set of Michelin X-Ice tires. I never thought I would say this.

Still, a week later I got the customary set of 17" alloy wheels with Michelin X-Ice just so the 19 incher OEM wheels don't get abused by the winter driving.

    First impressions:
    1. Feels quite a bit cramped in the front and back when compared to the Gen 1.
    2. In colder temps, the newer car will fire-up the gas engine far more eagerly than the Gen 1. On the 2018, I could go an entire winter without starting the engine. No so with the new one when doing the exact same prep and conditioning.
    3. Despite the added engine time, also averaging an additional ~2 kWh/100kms more than the Gen 1 for the exact same commute.
    4. Gadgets galore... and man, I hate subscriptions. Fortunately a good number of them are 10 year long subs, while a few are about 3 years. XM radio is a few months. This subscription hell cannot be a good trend.

    Cheers
