Y'all can evacuate, but trees cannot. The Lorax scowls at you.

Might I direct your attention to:

    https://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/

Gosh! imagine if such a thing had global coverage with a 3-years prior window (about right for trees). Then we might know where to direct your remaining 2 wishes.

Farmers always say they are losing money while casino players always say they are winning. Perhaps we could meditate on that somewhere else.

Here we confront the matter that a predicted strong hurricane season won't be. I see both plusses and minuses from those busted bets.

So how is Puerto Rico recovery from their previous hurricane going?

Source: Puerto Rico, four years after Hurricane Maria, far from recovery.

The memories of surviving Hurricane Maria still haunt people in Puerto Rico, four years after the storm wreaked havoc on the U.S. territory on Sept. 20, 2017.

There are reminders of the destruction, with thousands of homes, many of them still covered with blue tarps, yet to be fixed. Constant power outages remind Puerto Ricans that essential work to modernize the antiquated electric grid decimated by Maria has not yet begun. Deteriorating school buildings, roads, bridges and even health care facilities point to a slow reconstruction process that has not yet picked up its pace.

A new analysis by the Center for a New Economy, a Puerto Rico-based nonpartisan think tank, argues that rebuilding after the hurricane is just one of three "systemic shocks" — along with the Covid-19 pandemic and the decadelong financial crisis — that is challenging Puerto Rico.

Regarding reconstruction, some of the most important work, which includes "undertaking mitigation activities to increase resiliency and reduce the risk exposure of vulnerable populations — has not yet begun," according to the analysis.

Artemis large rocket is rolling out for launch late this month or early next. This suggests to me that NASA feels hurricane risk to central Florida is about nothing for the next few weeks. That's why I mention it here.

Sorry but I have low enthusiasm for Artemis, a collection of legacy parts. It has kept NASA stuck fiddling with yesterdays technology.

NASA satellite missions are the bleeding edge of technology but this rocket is not even close.

I come here not to praise Artemis. But to watch his husk sink in Atlantic. Where future civilizations will find much expensive sunk hardware and say "Huh - that's weird".

There is a pre storm. By ECMWF model, it gets strong and recurves while still off Florida coast, and after Artemis' launch windows. It must be said that all models still predict weakly, one week out and more. But there may be something to talk about besides flying pork :)

If they didn’t have bad luck, they wouldn’t have any at all
