The short answer is no. In order to use the remote app, you have to have the telematics used for the Safty Connect service active. When you buy the Toyota car, even if you did not sign anything specific, you have consented for them to collect the data OTA. The only way to stop it is to Opt-Out from the Connected Service by actively contacting Toyota via phone, internet, or from the app.

BTW, I did not have the Safety Connect on my 2017 PP. It became standard on all trims in 2020 model and up. On my 2020 PP LE, I opted out and disconnected the telematics right after I purchased the car. Toyota kept bugging me by email and post card to sing up and enable the promotional Safety Connect service several times, but I never did.

You can read details here: Privacy and protection
Here is the important statement from the page. Bold letters and underline emphasis are by Toyota.

When you lease or buy a vehicle equipped with Connected Services, data collection is active. You may deactivate Connected Services at any time by contacting us; and we will no longer collect your Personal Information, Location Data, Driving Data and Vehicle Health Data.

If you do not deactivate Connected Services, you specifically consent to our electronic collection and use of your personal information and vehicle data and our storage of such data wherever we designate.

thanks. I mean I'm not that phobed out about being tracked/monitored - but knowing/using every bit of car location/driving habits/system use, etc. and able to sell that or share that outside of toyota, etc. just seems like too much. no way to turn the sharing/locating/collection of driving info on/off like I can do with apps/gps/permissions on my phone? i.e I take my phone most places but most often dont' have gps/bluetooth on.

could i consent to the monitoring/download the apps and give them a trial - and if it's not that great, delete and ask to opt out/stop monitoring delete my data at that point?

Would love to hear from others - I'd really like access to data/control over this great machine - and should be able to access info without consenting to 100% collecting/monitoring.

though it doesn't offer remote start anyway, is that correct?

can anybody with a 21 using the apps point me to screen shots/web sites that show what I'll be missing? (or best threads on priuschat?) thanks.

AFAIK, there is no user option to turn on or off the monitoring and no one has hucked the system successfully to disable monitoring. If you buy a car with Connected Service, you already have consented to the monitoring/download of the data. The car now comes Connected Service activated by default. As long as you actively opt-out of the service sometime after the purchase, then yeas no more data will be sent to Toyota since no telematics are functioning. Opting out the Connected Service does not prevent any type of data recording devices on-board, so there are still some driving record and service-related data that can be extracted from the car, but that will require the car to be physically serviced.

There is no engine start functionality for PP using Toyota OEM Connected Service App. I think remote charging monitor, TPMS data, and remote window and climate control are what I have read some people had successfully operated using the app, but since PP does not offer Service Connect on PP, very limited car maintenance-related information is available on the App. I think there was a thread showing the screenshot of the app using the Remote Connect functionality. I will add the info if I find it.

The 2021 is great with its much improved handling and always-pushing-you-into-your-lane TSS 2.0, the Limited is great, and the Blue Magnetism is the best car color I can imagine, the last of which you only truly appreciate once you own the car. I feel like a king in mine.

@DC_2004_Prius since your profile and name are both showing 2004 to avoid anyone mistaking your question or comment I think it would be a good idea to mention 2021 Prime in your posts. blah blah blah.

Down at the bottom of PriusChat Home page is this subforum Prius OBDII Third-Party Apps

@john1701a has posted a new video using Hybrid Assistant
Is it just me, or is Torque Pro really difficult to understand and use? | PriusChat

If you like that and also installing Hybrid Reporter than those two apps will give you traction pack info (and a ton of other info about the cars systems) in the saved reports.

Torque Pro will also show battery data. Although it's a lot like ScanGauge 2 where one has to know how to program in PID's (and many PID's change with each new Gen Prii and mid gen refreshes like the Prime 20 21 refresh. It's not plug and play as much as Hybrid Assistant or DrPrius

DrPrius is the easiest and most visual for traction pack stats, well that was what @jacktheripper built it for.

No Prime 2020 - 21 yet that I'm aware. And I've read one post saying DrPrius doesn't recognize that posters 20 Prime - YMMV your mileage may vary

    Torque wiki Torque OBD2 Wiki
    Hybrid Assistant Hybrid Assistant
Hybrid Reporter Hybrid Assistant: New charts in Hybrid Reporter on spacebook too
DrPrius Hybrid battery diagnostic and repair tool for Toyota and Lexus

As far as there being Toyota Gauges to track Traction Pack data, that would be techstream / window 10
    More Info
Although none that came with the Prime, that I'm aware of or have found yet.

grrrr, I'm a page behind the rest of you guys, again ..... :notworthy:

yes, if you just want to monitor real-time battery data Dr. Prius App is the plug and play solution.
I've tried my best to keep up with all the hybrid model so yes 2021 Prime supported.

    Thanks for the update @jacktheripper

I have plenty of questions about how to read the DrPrius graphs for the 96 cells showing for the Primes.
I've been avoiding asking, they are mostly trivial and I know you're busy with the Lipo Pack builds.

I for one am Very grateful for the work and the Free part of DrPrius, I use every trip I make in our Prime.

I've done a simulation of parts of the Full Battery Test and noticed with foot on the brake and go pedal maxed the Prime is governed at around 75 Amps. It was hesitant doing that but my curiosity got the best of me anyways.

I've also only seen the Voltage graph go red once of a split second while accelerating to highway speeds at about 200 Amps from what I could see glancing over at the screen. Although I did notice a few days later than the Internal Resistance graph changed dramatically (at least from a visual perspective) after that trip.

Again, trivial stuff from my point of view, although I'll also mention that the internal resistance graph stayed in that one state for a month of cold weather driving, than when temps went up into the high 50's and low 60's F
the Internal resistance graph did a kind of reset. First going back to (my) normal view with turquoise small columns straight across once, than a bare line with no turquoise showing 2 or 3 trips, than back to normal small columns again for the last week of two, even with drops in temp down to the low 20's F without grille block. (my cars grille shutters don't close, to the best of my understanding).
I'll be on that more the first time I get techstream up.

@vvillovv for prime or Gen4 lithium, might want to try the recording feature (red button) and analyze the CSV with Excel graph.
the short period of red is totally fine, as long as it doesn't persist.

so will the toyota app not send notifications when charging is done - is it only if I use scheduled charge on my limited.?
can 2021 LE models control door locks/windows/see status/location of the car in the toyota app - or through entune 3.0 which Limited cannot access? Can earlier Primes access this info/have more functionality?

    if so, this is dumb.

Also- can I not customize what is on my 11.6 screen when it is in "split screen" with one thing on top and another on bottm? Apple car play will go on top - but I can't get rid of the map on top in all other combinations?

In viewing the energy status on the 11.6 screen - does it really just show me a big picture of the car and energy flow without the battery status/EV percentage? How is this possible? Wth Toyota?

I think they just threw in that big screen to look impressive. I have no doubt that they spent the bare minimum of time programming it. Just enough to get the essentials and then went on to the next great thing.
