Owners of '17 Prime's are no doubt crossing their fingers that the '18 Primes aren't better, and its to the obvious advantage of dealers not to address the next model year too soon. It will be interesting to see if the '18 Primes have changes.
i hope it's better. i hope it has a bigger battery. album art. apple carplay. etc. We 2017 owners want the best for 2018.
It's a first year model that is selling about as well as Toyota hoped. There might be some shifting of features between trims, but most of their efforts for the 2018 Prime will be going towards addressing any issues that arose for being a brand new model. The solar roof option might become available, but I expect that and any other 'big' change to be held back until the mid-cycle refresh.
Not sure what some of you are smoking but the GR Sports edition is much better looker than the standard prime. And yes, it's all about cosmetics because in Japan, every other car is a hybrid or just really good on gas. The Japanese like to stand out when it comes to cars. Fuel efficient cars are a dime a dozen and people aren't raving about electric only cars. Also the 2018 Prime will not be anything different from the current but minor improvements and to include more things as standard. I live in work in Japan and colleagues have told me that the 2019 model will see some changes. Still, I've got my eyes on the GR Sport PHV but $40K is little too much for a spec'd out PHV. I'll wait to pick up a used one since new cars are MUCH more expensive than used cars here.
definitely a different culture than here, although, we do have our modifier forum, not anything like japan.
I can almost guarantee there will be very few, if any, changes. No new paint colors and no new interior colors.
I bought a 2012 civic (first of its generation), and it was refreshed the following year because of poor reviews. It's possible but I find it unlikely that the prius prime will get any big improvements other than maybe color options. It's expensive to retool, and unless you have a product like the civic or corolla which pulls in tremendous revenue, you'll find that prius prime won't be too high in toyota's to do list.
If they can bring the interior accoutrements of the GR Sports to NA, I'd be happy. The leather/alcantara seats look great, as is the alcantara IP insert, blacked out A-pillars (stock is light grey) and the alcantara-wrapped centre console (front & rear) lids.
I can almost guarantee there will be very few, if any, changes. No new paint colors and no new interior colors. It can be a tad tough almost guaranteeing something that is not known yet, but I can do one better. I can guarantee we'll know if there will be any changes to the 2018 Prime...as soon as Toyota's website indicates the Prius Prime as a 2018 model. Currently Toyota's website is indicating seventeen 2018 models but is still showing eight 2017 models, one being the Prime. It will be interesting to see how many more days Toyota continues to present the 2017 models.
On the uk site the Prius PHEV is still showing as ‘new’ so I can’t see a refresh happening here iPhone ?
For all we know, the addition of the GR Sport could be the "2018" changes. Note that Japan uses calendar year to designate their cars. It's not like North America that designates model years that can be up to 12 months ahead.
So true. The 2000 Tundra (first year) started selling in early 1999, IIRC. I bought mine in early 2000.
