CC2 (Cross Climate 2) Michelin tire appears to have a little more aggressive thread with bigger gaps, is it also all season(A/S) or some sort of cross between A/S and a Winter tire? I wonder about road noise and how they will last mileage wise comparing to Defender T+H A/S, is there a comparison available?
You would have to read the reviews on TireRack and Discount tire. The CC2 def have been snow and ice ratings than the Defenders. I believe one of them have a comparison tool as well.
All, I want to thank everyone for their contributions to my question. After stalling, hemming, hawing, looking up ratings, price, treadwear vs the amount of driving I will do, etc., I ultimately went with the Michelin Defender T+H. Still, I'm kind of proud that my lowly Toyo NanoEnergy A29 from the factory lasted as long as they did. 8 years, and 68,608* miles. Admittedly, I probably should've changed them around the 60k mark, given the tread depth. Still, for a tire that has only a 300 treadwear rating, and seems to have not lasted terribly long given the few posts here that I've stumbled across about them, I think I lucked out on how long my original tires held up. That said, I also forgot how much I like the look of brand new tires for the first couple of days on a car! Bonus points. But, again, thanks to all who contributed here, and made me feel more comfortable about the tire choice. ---------- * If I'm being totally fair, one of the tires was replaced at about the 17,000 mile mark, due to a nasty puncture that couldn't be repaired, so it only had 51k on it.
On the new Michelins? Load: 91 Speed: H Treadwear: 820 Traction: A Temperature: B On the old Toyo NanoEnergy A29 set? According to TireRack.com, which my memory seems to agree with: Load: 89 Speed: S Treadwear: 300 Traction: A Temperature: B
Rather than start yet another tire thread, I'll tag onto this, w the only difference being I'm shopping for 17" tires vs the 15 inchers on the Two Eco. As for driving style, I am embarrassingly proud to camp out in the slow lane, whether it's tooling around town or for an annual 6-state road trip. I'm considering the Douglas option mentioned earlier from Walmart that has dropped in price to $68 from $75 each. However, there is another less expensive option w a similar 45k warranty by the name of GT radial Champiro UHP GT Radial Champiro UHP A/S 215/45R17 91 W Tire Fits: 2011-13 Honda Civic Si, 2010-11 Toyota Prius Base - Walmart.com Currently running the Bridgestone Ecopia 422+s that have lasted more evenly and longer than expected, and Black Friday tire sales will be around the corner soon in case I consider the more popular ones mentioned on many of the threads here like michelin defenders, Continentals, or repeat Ecopias. Does anyone have experience with either Walmart option? thx in advance
I don't skimp on tires. as tires are critical for safety. Since I live in a cold climate, I only use All-Weather (not all season) tires. My favorite tires are the Nokian WRg4 tires that are H-rated for strength (51 max psi), LRR for good MPG and perform well in all conditions. They are not cheap (about $500 for a set of 4 installed) but last 50 thousand miles so only about $0.10 per mile. Alternatives are the higher priced Michelin CC+ and the less expensive General Altimax 365AW. JeffD
Thanks for your input, Prof JD. I used to "not skimp" on tires, but back then, I suppose it was out of relative necessity. One of my first vehicles that I owned didn't have 15 _or_ 16 in tires; they were metric! Remember the Michelin TRX? https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a46076617/michelin-trx-metric-tires-infamous/ Despite that I was plagued w the TRX pricepoint, I was happy w its performance, and occasionally ran into other unconventional tire sizes in the early 2000s w some limited edition integra. It's interesting that our prius 17" tire size is the same size as the front tire of one my other vehicles for which i also did not "skimp" on. It's a Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 and may be "unfit" despite that the numbers don't lie. Although I have mainly biked back and forth 6-7 days a week for the past couple decades, I usu rode continentals (manufactured in Germany) and michelins (France/Spain/Thailand/occasionally from China) on my bicycle that cost a pretty penny. Recently, I decided to try the Wally special on a few bike parts and have been doing ok, recognizing the brands from way back then and how they succumbed to walmart / amazon selling their products. I wonder if the same logic applies, given my subdued driving style in the prius. G4 owners, pls share your experiences w your walmart tires and any snafu's w installation. I'm anticipating to purchase online but debating on whether to pickup at store for mounting or have them shipped to my home for installation by another competitor such as discount tire, mavis, etc.
