    The "introduction" at a major car show is a status thing. It doesn't matter if everyone has seen pictures. It's the "-event-" that matters. Logic does not apply! ;)

    The Gen3 was only revealed at Detroit. There was nothing leading up to it like there is at Vegas for the Gen4.
    I can't help but to wonder why they are doing it this way. The Vegas event is not an open event. So it's not as though they are giving people in the US the ability to see it before Frankfurt.

    Important information I'd like to know is:

    Internal storage - dual glove boxes, center console, under cargo area, side storage in cargo area, sunglasses, etc. Pictures open and closed would be most appreciated.
    What any options do to specs. 4WD/2WD, does cargo, passenger volume or storage places change? How about changes in range/efficiency/fuel volume? NiMH versus Li-ion, same questions. I realize we don't even know for sure if those are actual options, but if they are...

    The Las Vegas event is a private event for U.S. media outlets. As David Beale said, the Frankfurt event would be the official reveal just like Detroit was for the Gen 3. For all we know, there might be a Japanese media reveal as well that we don't know of.

    Could Toyota best the current 0.25 Cd? Perhaps 0.24?

    Also, please check the sound quality of the base speakers. Will the premium models come with JBL GreenEdge?

    HV battery fan location, has it changed? Is there serviceable air filter?

    With the Tesla S and the Sonata hybrid getting 0.24, it should be within the realm of possible.

    Don't know if it's been mentioned already, but if able, could you please get a look and photo of where the hybrid battery is located?

    Also, have they retained the beam rear suspension or did they go to some type of independent rear suspension? The Taiwan site reported the curb weight dropped 200 lbs to about 2,840 something. Wonder if that's near fact or fiction.

    thats pretty simple - Prius will go on sale before end of the year, hence earlier introduction... showing it in the USA as well means that it will get full US media attention, which is important since it sells the best in the USA after Japan.

    weight is one of the things they were talking about when they showed TNGA platform to the media, together with lower center of gravity... and Prius is first TNGA vehicle - so it is certainly possible for weight to be dropping that much.

    In the tech presentation posted in this thread, the speaker mentioned the gen3 roof peak was moved rearward from gen2 to increase rear seat headroom. It appears the gen4 roof peak has been moved forward (like gen2), so can we take note if the rear seat headroom has been retained from gen3 to gen4?

    Hopefully they can provide an approximate curb weight figure at the Sept 8 reveal, but I'd guess they won't release spec'd curb weight until close to production start or even a little after November.

    yep, based on what they usually do, we will get full info when it starts sales (3-4 weeks max before)... However, since this is basically first new global vehicle from Toyota, they might tell us more than usual about it due to that TNGA platform... I dont expect exact figure but they will likely say some basics if they are impressive enough....otherwise they usually wait for another show for full spec reveal so they can get another spot in the media.

    According to the info. "stolen" by the Taiwanese site it goes from 3042 in the GIII down to 2843 lbs in the G4.

    Speculation also said the Gen 3 will maintain its weight but it went up compared to the Gen 2.

    one thing to remember is how big PR weight loss is right now... so they may say up to 300lbs weight loss and then when we get top spec models, it turns to be 80lbs because of "added equipment and safety features" compared to old model.

    VW did that with new Golf, claimed 300lbs weight loss and then when it was group tested it has same weight as Auris diesel which lost "only" 100lbs.

    Exciting part is that this is trully something completely new from Toyota, brand new platform designed to fit new engines and technology for lower weight and lower center of gravity for better handling, as well as a lot lower development costs, lower capital costs (plants), lower production costs which should lead not only to more profit but also most of it is supposed to be invested in more technology, equipment and simply better car from before... now we will finally see if that is true.

    I am excited about the new platform. Too long have there been PC members that said "I like the Prius but the Focus/Golf/Volt/Mazda3 etc drives so much better". I hope the new chassis and lower centre of gravity translate to a better drive (Of course that's still dependent on the steering ratio, steering feel, suspension type and suspension tuning as well as tyre grip and sidewall height).

    Tough going for Prius: There will be tons of hot shots pooh pooing it on reply posts just because it is a Kammback shape. They are confused as to what the Prius should be and don't understand why the Prius works so well and sells about 3x more than any other hybrid.

    Hopefully the reviewers will be like 'forget what you know about the Prius, this thing is so much better '.
    I remember when Truth About Cars first reviewed third generation Prius. Wow they really kicked it to the curb: Remember when reviewer said he looked at 'resin entombed interior and felt like saying 'open the pod bay doors Hal' ?
    Hopefully the new one is so good that it would be ludicrous to give it a review like the aforementioned

    I agree with you guys both... I am conflicted as well - Best (as in within its class, times) Prius to me was Gen2 which was purposely made to drive like a computer and not a car. So everything about it was novel - from looks, interior space to the driving experience.

    It seems that Toyota wants to make G4 with novel looks that cant be confused with anything else on the road but that handling will be classic car. Powertrain will be a bit faster, and bit more efficient, combined with new chassis it should be quite the experience.

    Exterior seems to be completely wild - i do hope that it will look all right in the end, even if crazy... just crazy good or crazy ok and not crazy bad (like rear light bulge in Mirai that is too much for me).

    From little we have seen of the interior, it seems we will finally get proper interior, with completely new design from Toyota, that will get mirrored in future Toyota's as well - Prius might set the benchmark for new TNGA Toyota's. I think it will be more modern design with some Mirai and other newer Toyota cues.

    Cant wait to see the car in some 21hr from now.
