The cleanest car on the road is the BMW i3 which is an electric.
If I add the range extending engine (for trips over 100 miles) does that make it any less useful as an EV? No. (Ditto the Volt.)

gm seems to have politicians disease. the need to denigrate the competition, to make their own attributes more attractive. it really isn't necessary.

I certainly agree that GM should be stressing there vehicles. However, much of the Prius advertising suffers from the disease that Prius drivers are hippies.

I'm criticizing the advertising approach for both. I'm not criticizing the vehicles or the corporations.

right, but your doing just what chevy does. denigrating prius advertising doesn't make volt ads look better.

So much for humor. The comment was a light hearted jab at all auto advertising, nothing more.

It's possible if they would target normal folks instead of who they target now. The Gen I market is not the current market.

for a non plug in, advertising should be a no brainer. it's a car, it gets 50 mpg, fill it with gas and go. drive one and compare to whatever else you're interested in.

stop trying to attract tree huggers, we've run out of trees.

I think the a$$face commercial really started out as a joke by someone just screwing around. A manager walked by, saw it and said it was great and to run with it. The guy that dreamt it up didn't want to say anything, so off it went.

Whenever I watch US politicians interacting, discussing stuff, I'm pretty much gobsmacked by the cordiality and cooperation: by comparison, our Canadian politicians come off as childish monomaniacs.

Well, except for George Bush junior. :ROFLMAO:

    Prius = #1

Volt = who the heck knows. Don't ask Chevy, they are completely clueless.

Just for grins, cool video concept for a plug-in ad. tiny waterfall charges car, then attempted fun to drive video. No words. No talk about zev or technology (although showed the tech).
Tesla Model S Charged By A Waterfall - Video

Nisan and gm could learn a bit from these fan tesla videos

I actually have both a Prius V and the Chevy Volt. Both are different animals, but for our family setup, it works great! For my 20 mile round trip to work, i use 0 gas. Heck, i haven't put gas in the volt in over 1 month, plus the 273 lb tq on the volt make it a blast to drive! The Prius V is a hauler with good mileage, but not as fun as the volt!

The failure of the ad is that there are plenty of example of "newer" technology that consumers declared wasn't "better." I'll start this list, add your own if you want:

    - Quadraphonic sound (~1970)
    - DVD-Audio discs (~1999)
    - Apple Newton (~1994)
    - Stereo 3D TV (2011)
    - 3D movies with anaglyph (red & cyan) glasses (1950s?)
    - DIVX (not the current video codec, the rental DVD format from Circuit City) (~1998)
    - Bubble memory (~1980)
    - Living room PC, such as Intel Viiv, Google TV, Yahoo TV (~2006-2010)
    - Google Glass (2012)
    - Segway (~2002)
There are plenty more... the Dvorak keyboard, 2 or every 3 versions on Microsoft Windows, and Hydrogen airships (and probably hydrogen fuel cell cars...but for different reasons)

I'm not counting things like Sony Betamax vs VHS and HD-DVD vs Blu-ray (those were just format wars on which option to choose)
