I guess they want to keep the GSh as the top of the line model in North America? Elsewhere, since the car is taxed by engine size, a smaller engine would work well. I'm not sure a GS300h would work well here especially since it'll be heavier than the Camry. Good to see that Toyota is spreading the cost of the system over more models to reduce the initial cost of development.

not sure how many folks would buy GS300h in US when it is $2k more expensive than GS350 thats 3s faster 0-60... unless fuel goes up a lot, i doubt we will see it... or they manage to price it down.

True. City consumption is half though (in Canada it's rated at 10.7/7.1 city/hwy. 9.1L/100km combined)

They don't sell many GS hybrids. It doesn't make much sense for them to make 2 variants for the US, simply inventory costs would be too much. I'm not sure if it matters which of the GS hybrids are produced

The ISh is another story, they don't sell one here, but say they will not sell it. Motortrend's blog said it was to help US sales of the ES. That didn't make much sense until the announcement of US production in Kentucky of the ES.

    March 2013 Dashboard - HybridCars.com
    Q1 sales
    ES hybrid 4039
    GS hybrid 128

Which is also the reason why TCI doesn't offer the Avalon Hybrids. There isn't enough Avalons sold here to warrant an extra model.

Interesting... that's a new placement for a battery pack and even more intriguing on a car with sporty pretensions.

How do you wrap your head around the idea of not putting heavy parts (such as traction pack) as low as you can (the floor) . . . unless it's because some design element already incorporated into it's "off the shelf" - non-hybrid design won't allow for it.

Is it just me, or was that the worst Lexus commercial ever? Couldn't tell if I was watching a car commercial or a bad early 90's music video.

No it's not just you, kept the volume low on this one. Automakers like to talk about having a younger age demographic for a particular car than the competition, it's about "Appealing to a younger crowd".

Well it is low isn't it? It's basically where the spare tyre is.
