That's still pretty good. My average is 46mpg on the stock 15s. I thought it would be the car, its mileage and the age of the 15" tires. Our 2010 has 110k miles and 2011 has 38K miles, but having driven both on same route and driving conditions, I was still getting 46mpg on either car. I think its just my driving style since my wife gets a little better MPG than me at 47-48 avg. I commute from Valencia to Paramount/Long Beach and there are some hills to go up to and I'm not really conservative on the gas pedal.

I just mounted the FRS set on the 2011 last night. We'll see how the gas mileage is affected on this one after a couple tanks.

They are the OEM on the FRS Michelin Primacy 215/45/17. got them with the wheels with only about 10% wear. I also used the 3mm spacer, but with no hubcentric rings yet. I plan to get those in a bit.

You probably won't need the rings. I ordered them and kind of regret it (spending wise). As long as you center the wheels somewhat carefully when tightening down the lugs, they won't vibrate. Heck, even the regular old joe at the tire store I got my tires from wasn't the brightest guy and the wheels don't vibrate after he worked on the car (I'm going to redo it myself cause I'm anal that way).

The only centering rings that I've seen available in our size for this application are plastic anyway and provide no structural support under load anyway.

Which lugnuts are you using? Scion or Toyota oem?

DO NOT USE OEM SCION FRS/SUBARU BRZ/TOYOTA GT86 LUG NUTS WHEN MOUNTING FRS/BRZ/GT86 WHEELS ON THE PRIUS.

Neither one of those will work (properly)

The Scion FRS, Subaru BRZ, and Toyota GT86 (all identical wheels and mounting hardware) are the wrong thread pitch.

(If anyone has these on the Prius, remove them immediately and install the correct ones).

FRS/GT86/BRZ use 12x1.25. Prius uses 12x1.50. The latter number is the thread pitch. You will have incorrect engagement if you use FRS/BRZ/GT86 OEM lug nuts and since you are already running non-hub centric wheels, this can be potentially dangerous.

The OEM PRIUS lug nuts are too wide to fully engage the seat and the seat is a mismatch with the FRS wheels anyway! The OEM lug nuts use a flat washer which doesn't engage the tapered seat of the OEM FRS wheel.

The FRS uses a common 60-degree tapered edge (or cone seat). Your lug nuts must have the correct seat and correct thread pitch!

    WARNING!

Although you may physically be able to screw these OEM FRS/GT86/BRZ lug nuts or OEM PRIUS and tighten them down, they are IMPROPER thread pitch and/or seat. This will result in an unsecure mounting of the wheel. This may result in vibrations or worse yet, wheel separation under the right circumstances.

I ordered a set of cone-seat 60-degree M12x1.5 6-spline tuner lugs. These are pretty much the only ones you can use for these wheels on our cars. Buy what you want, but if interested here's the link:

    Gorilla Spline M12x1.5 Lug Nuts

Of course, make sure you torque the lug nuts down by hand first doing lug nuts at the opposite ends with NO load on the wheel. This centers the wheel. Then install the rest and tighten in a star pattern using final torque values. I tightened them down at 80 ft-lbs. Drive around the block, retighten. Then check again in the next few days. Then after a week. then two weeks. Can never be too safe.

I'll post more information as far as wheel locks and stuff if anyone is interested.

I figured that too. I was gonna see how it is after a few days of driving it around. I've had aftermarket wheels of all kinds thru the years with diff center bores than the hub and never thought much about it before. Its just me getting older and reading from here I got influenced in thinking about getting them. haha.

I got something similar to this.
12x1.5 thread pitch is what you need. As E46 mentioned, DO NOT USE OEM FRS/BRZ lug nuts.

You can't reuse the OEM lug nuts that were for the stock wheels with hubcaps. Those have a washer built in to hold the hubcaps.

^Yup those will work too as long as they are narrow enough to fit inside the wheel. The FRS has somewhat narrower holes than the stock Prius wheel. The OEM prius wheel lug nuts did not fit well inside. (wrong seat anyway)

Yup that's where I'm at. Years of driving modified cars and now I'm older and more safety-conscious =D

THE OEM washers have nothing to do with the wheel covers. The wheel covers are held on by clips on the outer edge of the covers.

LOL ok anyway, you cant use it. The washers on the OEM lugs wont clear thru the FRS wheel lug holes.

I'll update my indicated tank average once I'm done with this tank on the new wheels but my morning commute today was 53.9mpg--my highest number. About the same "highest" number I got with my stock 15s. So the switch to 17s wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I'm feeling much better about it now. To think I'm using non-LRR tires too.

Hey guys - new member here!

After reading this thread, I decided to buy some FR-S wheels for my 2012. Bought 3mm hub centric spacers online. Got tires put on them. Got the sensors put in. Bought the new lug nuts.. But when I go to put the wheels on, I only get about three or four turns of the lugnuts before they are tight.. I'm no engineer or anything but that doesn't seem very safe...

Wanted to ask some of you guys who have had your wheels for a while now - have you had any problems? Any broken or stripped studs, wheels falling off, anal guys at Discount Tire refusing to work on your car, etc?...

Thanks a bunch - I have everything set up and ready to go, but I want to be sure I'm safe first...

As long as your spacers are 3mm, you should be getting about 6 turns. Don't forget the wheel and spacer will compress some after initial torque and that will allow for some more fastener movement. I think you probably aren't counting the turns correctly. Measure your spacers and make sure they are really 3mm.

I double and triple checked the amount of turns and a guy at discount tire counted the turns the same as I did - not quite four turns with the 3mm spacer. The only way I get 6 turns is by removing the spacer completely, and even then it's only barely 6 turns after torquing down!

How sure are you guys that you're actually getting enough turns on the stud with those 3mm spacers??..

For me I counted 6 complete rotations.

Are you using the correct 12x1.5 thread pitch fasteners? what lug nuts are you using?

I'm using some acorn style nuts from Gorilla.. Discount Tire sold them to me & said they were what I needed. I can tighten them by hand all four (or six) turns so there's no way they're cross-theaded.. Either that or I don't know my own strength haha

Any way they put different stud lengths on this car?

Make sure they are 12x1.5 thread pitch. Many tuner cars are 12x1.25 so they could have sold you that. Just make sure.

Beyond that.. not sure what to tell you. Your best bet might be to cut 3mm off the caliper bridge. I might go that route cause i'd rather not have spacers. For now my spacers work though.

If they were different pitches, wouldn't they cross-thread? Or does pitch mean something else?

They would engage but not securely. many here are using the wrong lug nuts. see a few posts above where I give a warning about it.
