2013 Scion FRS Wheels

    Look at the wheels. If the hole has a flat surface adjacent to the holes, then you need a mag type lugnut, like the stock ones. If it has a rounded bevel, then it's acorn type.

    to go FR-S OEM, you need:

    -3mm spacer
    -centric ring 541 to 56.1
    -12M x 1.5 lug nuts. a bit thinner and longer.

    hope this helps! I went with a custom 3mm spacer with a welded centric ring.

    Of the 3 types of lugnuts pictured above, only the oem mag type lugnut on the left is the correct type for the flat machined surface of the FRS/BRZ wheels.

    then help me out guys! lol...

    the prius OEM lug nuts do not reach the surface of the wheel like the FRS OEM and new lug nuts. They are too wide to reach the bottom. So I cannot use them. Which lug nut should I have gone with? I tried searching again, but the mag 12m x 1.5 still seem too wide to be able to sit properly. :cry:

    Sorry, I didn't notice that one of the pictured lugnuts was an FRS OEM lugnut. If you have the FRS OEM lugnuts, use those, as they would be compatible with the FRS wheels as well.

    The FRS oem lugnuts seem to have a unique style end on them.

    Use the FRS lug nuts. But since you gonna use spacers then you have to tighten your lugs from time to time making sure its not loose.

    I finally got them installed! next step... trd springs and rear sway bar!

    I know it's early, but better to be prepared and do research way ahead of time. I asked the 88forums (brz/frs) about what winter tires to use for the wheels. The stock Michelin Primacys it comes with are not recommended for the snow and extreme low temps we get in IL. And since they're running low on tread, I might make them my winter set, and just get 18s next summer.

    This is what they suggested:
    Bridgestone 215/45R17 Blizzak WS70

    My question is, has anyone had experience with these tires on their Prius? I know it's not gonna have that same low profile look and a little beefier, but safety always is a concern in the winter for me...

    45 is still a low profile tire.
    ANY winter rated tire is going to be amazing in snow and ice compared to the 'summer only' Primacy HP.
    In fact some towns have a snow ordnance that, when in effect, you get ticketed if you get stuck in the street without AS or winter tires or chains.

    Isnt the FRS lug thread different from the Prius? So you cant use the OEM FRS lug nuts. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    its the same @12M x 1.5. I just choose not to use them and use aftermarket ones instead since they look like tiny metal acorns. I did the switch to FRS around June, driven from NJ to IL, went through the 10k maintenance at Toyota, and was all still good.

    It seems the listed info above may be incorrect. I need help.

    I just bought a set of OEM Subaru BRZ wheels. They use the flat type mag style lug nuts. (Not tapered)

    For the Prius, the thread size everywhere online is listed as M12x1.5. For the BRZ/FRS, it's listed as M12x1.25.

    So which lugs do I get? If the stock Prius lug nuts don't fit because they're too wide... this means I need a thinner M12x1.5.

    People above said to use the stock FRS lug nuts and you'll be OK. But the stock FRS lug nut is M12x1.25 so how is this possible if the prius is 1.5? That refers to the thread pitch right?

    These seem like they would fit: 20pc Black Mag Lug Nuts with Washer 12x1 5 for Stock Mitsubishi Wheels | eBay

    Of course i'll be using the custom made spacers/adapters listed in this thread spaced at 3mm. So I shouldn't need extended studs.

    Those black lugnuts look about as wide as the oem lugnuts. :confused:

    They do. Not sure what to do here. If anyone has direct and proper firsthand experience with this, I would appreciate it. Seems some people may be using the wrong pitch lug nuts on their Prius threads. The only proper fix I can think of is using FRS-spec studs (M12X1.25). Unless I am missing something.

    It appears Toyota uses Subaru standard 12x1.25, not 1.5 as you specify. That means your threads are further spaced than Toyota threads it seems..

    I'm ok with what I have. I did my research everywhere online and double checked with the dealer at both service and autoparts departments and they said I would be fine.

    Dont let me stop you from trying 1.25 though, let everyone here know your findings! We're all here to help each other out.

    Sorry what I meant was Toyota uses 1.25 for the FRS which is a Subaru standard. Prius uses 1.5 thread pitch which is the usual for Toyota. (It's a more coarse pitch than the fine pitch FRS/Subaru is using) which means anyone using 1.25 pitch lug nuts on 1.5 pitch threads means the thread engagement may not be ideal which could mean reduced holding strength. Be careful.

    What I did was order 1.5 conical style (tapered) lug nuts. I examined the subaru wheels up close and they do have a mag edge but also a tapered edge which means they should have enough surface area to mount onto the wheel. The stock subaru lug nut seems to have a tapered edge too but I'm not sure. If anyone can confirm.

    I ordered the hub centric adapters as well as 3mm spacers rather than go the expensive custom route. Hope I did OK.

    Interesting, FYI, 12mm x 1.25 is the same pitch as the oil drain plug. So next time you have the oil drain plug out, you can see if it screws into your FRS/BRZ stock lugnuts. ;) :D
