Wow. A simple no would have worked. Lol.

But a 'simple no' is not (yet) correct. If I wanted that configuration, my electrical skills are high enough to prompt me to open it up and take a look.

Okay. And no you didn't open it up. It's a lamp assembly. Not a hypothetical as you posed.

The 2013 Three has 4 positions on the headlight switch:
    • Headlights
    • Parking lights
    • DRL
    • Full off (all lights including DRL off when Prius is powered up)

^^ That much matches my 2012 Three. But someone else (in another thread?) mentioned a difference between 2012 and 2013 DRL operation.

The main element missing for auto on is the light sensor on the 2013's(2, 3 and Persona). So thus the DRL position on light switch. What's interesting is the customization screen also having the DRL on/off toggle. Don't mind the manual on. It's simple actually if you want it auto on, just leave it in "DRL" position.

I had the chance to test out driving with just DRL LED's on my quiet street, they are darn bright!

I guess if you want to be upset, go to town. I am glad to have the choice to switch the DRL's off. I do leave them on most of the time, but I like having the easy option to cut them off.

You mean there's a town where you can't have auto-on AND they don't let you have the choice to switch your DRLs off? That IS upsetting.

Make sure the parking brake is off or the lights wont go on.

I have a 2012 trim 3 and it does not automatically have DRL. At first I was surprised, but like anything you get used to it. I leave it on DRL except when I'm driving at night.

For me the surprised was like to find out that you have a manual window roller instead automatic switch.

    How?

Are you saying it takes as much effort to turn a headlight switch as it does to roll down the rear passenger side window from the driver's seat? Are you saying that the auto-on sensor is just as easy to notice as window roller handles hanging from all 4 of your doors?

I'm sorry, I don't find this analogy to be anything even remotely close to finding out you don't have auto-on headlights. You may as well equate not having auto-on headlights to finding out you have a manual transmission and clutch instead of an automatic after you've driven the car home.

I just compare to a window roller because I didn't bought the basic Prius and I think that even the basic one need to come with auto. And I drove the basic as a test drive...

Just bought a 2013 Plug In Advanced. (I guess they only come in two trim levels, the Basic and Advanced) My lights seem to be a bit different than what I've seen here. The light stalk on the steering wheel has:
    • Headlights
    • Parking Lights
    • Auto
    • DRL Off
When set to Auto, the DRLs only come on in the daytime, automatically. At night, the DRLs go off, and the parking lights, headlights, eyebrows and the fog lights (when the fog light switch is on), come on, once again, automatically (yes, this Prius has LED EYEBROWS!). The sensor for the automatic lights is on top of the right side of the dash. When set to Parking Lights, the parking lights, the daytime running lights and the eyebrows all come on, whether it is day or night. When set to Headlights, all parking lights, headlights, eyebrows and fog lights (when fog light switch is on) come on, but no DRLs.

By the way, we LOVE the eyebrows! Also, it seems we have TWO low beam bulbs, and the low beams have a blue tint to the housing. I'm attaching some pictures, as soon as I figure out how!
