The bulbs are separate fuses, so in a miraculous turn of events, the one bulb blowing out the fuse would have had to blow the fuse near it as well. Or... in more real world terms... both bulbs blew since he said he replaced both bulbs and it fixed his problem. ;)

The problem with all of this is that HE DID NOT ACTUALLY SAY THAT REPLACING THE BULBS FIXED THE PROBLEM.

And.....are you quite sure that each individual tail light has it's own fuse ? That would be rather unusual.

You are right, he didn't specifically say he replaced them... just that they were out... and that one of the bulbs was bad. This is just deductive reasoning and it could absolutely be wrong... but it doesn't seem to be.

It has been a while since I looked at the fuse box for the rear lights since I have the LED vilenti's(sp?), but the front lights are set up this way. HL fuse, HR fuse, LL fuse, LR fuse. I looked at the fronts last week.

I found a diagram for the fuse panel online and you're right, there is only 1 fuse for the rear lights.

1 TAIL 10 Parking lights, side marker lights, tail lights, license plate lights, front fog lights, gauge and meters

I do find it interesting that there is only 1 brake light fuse for all 3 brake lights...

19 STOP 7,,5 Starter system, shift lock control system, vehicle proximity notification system, brake system, stop lights, high mounted stoplight

Well then one bulb "blowing out" can take out the fuse along with it.......causing the other lights to go dark too.

I agree that it "can". Based on the information that was given, I do not believe that is what occurred. This is because he clearly mentions the license plate lights were on. Therefore, we can deduce it was just a set of bulbs. ;)

It would be REALLY nice if "he" came back and clarified.

    I HATE drive-by posters.

Just discovered exactly the same problem with my C13...

I expected that with DRL (one click up on the lights control) rear "red markers" are off. That's how I had it before. However when I turn on "driving lights" (two more clicks), rear red markers are still off. Front "orange markers" are ON though. When I hit breaks, LED cluster turns on, however when I release it, it goes completely off (however it should be "dim light". All other lights work as expected.

The only thing in addition to checking fuses (which I didn't do yet), I'd check a "ECU" with Toyota software, if there is something over there...

    I'm having trouble decoding this.

Your stop lamps are supposed to be completely independent from your taillights. Sometimes they are separate elements inside the same bulb, but always separate circuits.

He's confused that his tail lights aren't on, but his "brake" *not break* lights come on when he's in the parking light setting.

Per this picture, they should be. Do your parking lights come on when you have full headlights turned on? If not, I'd start checking fuses.... granted all this assumes you have the AUTO slot on your stalk. My 2012 doesn't, but all other settings work as written.

Possibly worth verifying which version of the headlight switch- ours isn't like the one pictured. I don't know if it's different because of the model year or because of the trim package.

Yes... Feel ashamed... Sometimes it's good to stop and pay attention to details...

Somehow I was thinking, that "marker lights" are the same LED compartment as brake lights. That's why I was scared, that brakes work, but markers are not... When I removed a tail lights cluster, I realized, that brakes have only two wires connector, and then started looking more carefully... And yes, two 168/194 bulbs went at the same time... Replaced with LED.
