It's good to find another person who went from a Prius to an Avalon Hybrid, I wonder if two families make a trend?
For the price, couldn't go wrong. Toyota lost a moneymaker when they discontinued the serpentine belt. Dealers were charging as much as $300.00 to change it. The part costs $30 and change and only takes about 10 minutes to change out. Oh well, I won't have to worry about that for awhile now. . .
I drove mine about a year now, only 2 things I don't like is airconditioner controls is hard to see in bright sunlight, Windows "sides and rear" way too dark at night but very nice in day..... Making a left hand turn onto another Street is especially precarious as its hard to see at night. Too many positives to list.... Alan............. A hump?..... What hump?
The beltless engine was a new feature for 2010 and that has carried forward to the 2012 Camry (2.5 litre) and 2012 Prius c (1.5 litre). I'm not sure if it made it to the V6s (HiHy/RXh).
I'm in a 2013 Avalon V6 conventional rental today. Pretty dark wine Red with light tan seats. Priuschat not letting me upload pics at the moment. anyhoo... the car drives really nice. Controlled body motions. It's an XLE Touring with the 18" wheels. Pretty wheels by the way. Real nice V6 in it. It's good and quiet inside. My wish list would be to have the extendable driver's seat bottom cushion. My thighs hang quite far over the edge of the seat like in all cars. Also, I can tell Avalon rides on a Camry chassis, cause my other wish would be steering wheel centered in front of seat, not offset to right. Can someone confirm new Avalon has basically same chassis as current Camry??
It has the same engine and transmission choices as the Camry, and it is assembled in the states. It is a lot longer with a much larger back seat, body is much different and my guess is that it is on a stretched Camry Chassis. Seems to be the same width. I own a 13 Avalon hybrid and test drove it and the Camry. I felt the Avalon was worth the extra money…
Articles mention it sharing the platform with the ES. I think it is a stretched version of the Camry's, but couldn't find confirmation.
Thanks. We went over the coastal hills to Half Moon bay and Pacifica in Avalon XLE Touring (conventional). Funny, I don't know what to do when it picks up too much speed downhill, except brake. In Prius, I'd but it in B drive. It's a very nice car, and like reviewers say, it does almost flat cornering, very little body roll. The trip MPG gage showing about 29 MPG over 140 miles. Not much else I can say except it is a nice car with a big trunk and spacious seats front and back. I like the dark Red color with the light tan seats and Brown interior accents. Let's see if can post a pic ... Nope. Something wrong with Priuschat pic uploading today.
We started with the 12 hycam, we loved it and I got a 13 prius c for me I drive around town most of the time. both these are great cars. Toyota has done a good job on these and as they expand into other cars I think they will gain general acceptance and we will see toyota as the main hybrid mfg. for the near future. those stating mpgs for the avalon are they dashboard mpg or using pump/miles on odometer?
When filling back up, the gage said 29.6 MPG and it had been around that all day. But, I reset the tripmeter, went 141 miles and put in 5.434 gallons for only about 26 MPG actual which seems much more realistic for a 3,600 lb V6 conventional sedan. I filled and refilled best I could.
congrats, tough to beat that in a car that size and weight! that's a 40% improvement over cycle's non hybrid rental. really proves the value of hsd.
I picked up my 2014 Avalon Hybrid Limited down in Mobile AL, om 3/22. I Love the car and plan on keeping it forever. I have a 2011 Prius that I love and will be putting it up for sale. This was an actual present from my Father, he quit driving and traded his car in for the Avalon. We had been looking at the Lexus E300h but decided on the Avalon instead.
Just had my Avalon hybrid in for it's 5000 mile service. The dealership did not rotate the tires just checked the tires. Is the tire rotation no longer on the "Free" 25k mile service?
i think you get 2 free services or 25,000 miles, which ever comes first? maybe they figure you're coming in at 10 and 20 for oil and tyres?
