i think you nailed it sb! i was hoping for base plus 6K = 29K before tax credit. but with the options they are throwing in, i think i can live with this. i still don't think you're getting the nav.

Perhaps it was done to achieve 49 g/km CO2 emission. I can see European modders hacking US firmware to unlock 62 mph EV speed.

    Re: I'm out!

I think this car will only get better from now on. And with the addition of the Prius c, this car is probably going to be moved upscale with the next generation(Look out).

Also, this is going to be a short year and they revise the color palette every year. I think a regular sunroof is not available because of the shape of the roof.

perhaps it was because we have so many 55 mph speed limits and 53 would have croaked us.

So $32K for the PHEV Prius vs. around $27K for a similarly equiped Prius III with Nav. I'm guessing that the $32K doesn't include destination - which means a price delta of about $5500.

Don't quote me, but I believe that the current federal tax rebate for the Prius PHEV will be $2500. So, is the price premium for the 2012 Prius PHEV only about $3000?

They added seat heaters as standard to effectively heat the driver and passenger. Since they are wired up, you might as well offer power seats. That would be my guess of the thought process.

sounds about right. they force you up from a pkg 2, but give you some decent features for the price. if you wanted the features anyway, you get the best of both worlds.

Chevy Volt - bend over and kiss it goodbye, party's over. Of course many saw that coming a year ago.

$32k entry - not surprised. Many around here surmised about $30k give or take a couple thousaned.

49 MPG in hybrid mode - plenty to delight most green car fans.

charges in 3 hours on 120V - impressive.

I think this car will be a huge hit among green car fans. No more lousy fuel economy for the short trips. 'Course, have to see how it does in really cold weather.

Toyota always goes with a lame, um, conservative with colors. Even Scion's selections seem sedate for what the brand is trying to portray. PHV's colors are just more so. Lack of a warm tone(does Toyota ever go beyond red in their family cars?) isn't surprising. Just one dark is. It's like they only had white paint and the some residue paint in the other cans to mix with the white for the PHV.

My 17s weight the same as my 15s but the tires are heavier, wider, and likely have high rolling resistance.

So EV toggles with HV, Eco toggles with Normal, and Power over rides both? Could there be a EV and Power combination that gives us Eu's EV city power mode? This setting would be useful for the short steep intown hills here locally.

$2K more than the 5 w/ATP seams reasonable to me. Same for the V, a little bigger body a little higher price. The new Camry Hybrid is a little less equipped than the Prius and a little cheaper. $2K is the premium you pay for the Camry Hybrid over the non hybrid model.

Yep - I'm with you on this. My 2007 is paid off, and I'm patiently waiting and saving for a Model S!

That's not necessary. The early model PHV shot right up the steep hill here, effortlessly staying in EV. I was so thrilled by the increase in electric-only propulsion, I drove around and did that same climb 3 more times. It was pretty sweet!
