I changed my mind with what's probably wrong with junkyard transmission. I'm thinking it was bearings on mg1.
If the input planetary was frozen somehow then driving down the road would always turn the engine over.
    That wasn't happening.
The use of mg1 must have negated the bearing problem driving down the road.
Man I Wish I could have taken it apart.
Well the transmission didn't turn by hand so something was wrong. Hopefully whatever that was the only thing.

So wow I could have pulled off the cover in the cover in bell housing and swapped out the original mg1 to junkyard trans and probably would have been fine.

That probably should be a note someone takes down.

Vibration at stop and Shuddering during engine braking is most likely mg1 bearings that can be accessed under the bell housing plate.
Replacing the bearings on mg1 probably would fix that.

Too late for me but there you go!

I'm a little paranoid about these pumps now so I decided to try to hand prime the pump on this transmission. I turned it a bunch of times with the dampener and rig a hand crank with a punch. Then took out the pressure bolt and here comes the oil.
Success no need to worry. It's primed.
Turned it a bunch more for good measure.

It was about $400 cheaper from the dealer with tax.
    I picked it up tho.

Well???? Did you get it in yet? And then drive it?

Nope going to pick up some parts tomorrow. It didn't come with a fill plug. Also getting high voltage motor caps. They are very fragile so of course I broke the hold downs. Hard to impossible to access the mg1 plug cap so I'm waiting to get them tomorrow.
Today I filled it with oil and primed it by hand. My paranoia kicked in and I wanted to see it primed since there is no real way to instantly know if the pump is pumping. Here is a video of how I did it. I didn't show the fluid coming out. But yes you can prime it by hand.

It's gonna take at least 2 days to put the trans and engine in. Maybe more with my back problems.
1/2 a day is shot for tomorrow.

You couldn't take the plugs from the original trans?
How are you keeping the oil in if the plugs are gone?

I could if the scrap guy didn't take it. I didn't have the space to keep it long.

So the shuddering is an imbalance of power to going back into the dampener since the combination mg1 charging and it's bad bearings are providing more resistance pressure then the system was designed for. Apparently that's a fairly precise amount of pressure balance.
In other words it was putting more pressure on the dampener then the damper could handle. This would rip up the dampener pretty quickly costing $400 to $1200 more to replace the damper on top of the cost of the transmission. Depending on how fast you need to get the dampener.

I did find a small amount of clutch material on the dampener. I really don't think it is enough to harm the dampener. I'll take a picture if anyone wants.

I think what killed my junkyard trans was the vent was broken off. It did have driveshaft plugs in it. So just the small tiny hole exposed to the atmosphere killed it.
I think I know how this transmission could be saved in storage.
Close up any way the atmosphere could get in ASAP.
Do not open the transmission in any way.
    1. Don't drain the oil.
    2. Don't remove the drive shaves cut the inner CV joints and remove the shaft with corresponding bearings. Leaving in the one side of the inner CV joint. New drive shaves are alot cheaper then new a transmission.
    3.
    A. I think this is the best way. Clean the vent stem and blob on a whole bunch of silicon all over the vent and in the vent. I know you would destroy the vent. A new Vent is cheaper than the transmission.
    B. Cover it with plastic and rubber band real tight around the stem of the vent.
    C. Either replace the vent with a bolt with Teflon tape on it.
    D. Cut it down and fill it with silicone.

This would minimize any humidity that would contact the bearings and other sacrifices in the transmission.
I don't know if a junkyard could store a transmission with oil in it. So I don't know if a junkyard could do this.

Progress report. Have both engine and transmission sitting in there. Got only 3 bolts holding them together. 3 hours of work.
Got all of the plugs and stuff to do. IMG20221218161042.jpeg

I did ask if the mg1 or its bearings were available. The guy didn't look and said nope anyway.

Don't know if you can tell. Might have someone coming over later with a better microphone.

I got a set of coils I'm gonna try before I pull the engine to inspect it for internal damage. Maybe by strange coincidence it spun a bearing at the same time I changed trans out.
    Kinda at a loss now.

I got a different front engine mount. I'm gonna try changing that. I guess it's possible it could be that. It is a cheap knockoff. Would be nice if it is that
