My parents have a 2012 Buick enclave with 165,000 miles. It's driven very aggressively and been on tons of 9 hour one way road trips. My dad will wake up at 3 am to leave for the beach and drive through the night. Reason he does that he sets the cruise to 85-90 mph and doesn't want other cars to slow him down.
He's totally insane and I don't like that he does that... They bought the car new and it doesn't drink oil yet..

All that to say, it's a GM product, a freaking GM product and it doesn't use oil after high speed abuse and years of my mom throwing it in drive the second she hits the key in the dead of winter.

It isn't right that Prii start burning oil like this from highway driving.

Or maybe this is a testament to Buick? ? :)

My best friend has a 2011 prius, it's got 125,000 and he just told me yesterday that the oil change place told him he had almost NO oil in the engine when he took it in for a oil change.

My best friend never, I mean never misses a oil change, he gets his oil changed ever 5k miles. So sad because damage has probably been done to his engine. He loves the car btw!

The taxi garage I knows considers the Ford Escape Hybrid to be bulletproof and the Prius v to be troublesome due to this issue. I believe them because they see both cars all day long and not just a handful of individual owners' experiences like we see on this forum. The problem is real and you don't have to drive 80 mph to have it.

If any one would know it's a taxi garage. They know em in and out. That's why I got rid of my v. It started drinking, and I decided I didn't want to deal with this in the future.

My brother and sister in law have a 07 escape hybrid. They barely maintain it and it's got well over 200k and it's so bullet proof. Not one drop of oil burnt.

I just think it's kinda silly that people are saying its perfectly fine and normal for these engine to drink like an alcoholic. Its really not haha

I love Prii, don't get me wrong. I love how they drive, look, their mpg.. But they've got one big problem.. The engine.

Was just inadvertently doing 80 for a good while and thought of this thread.

    Interesting reading.

Selling this '10 and choices were a 2013+ Pri's, Lexus and now gonna look into the Ford Escape. Thanks, TB!
(I'd get a considerable bump in pay at a side gig with a luxury car)

My goal of speaking highly of the '10 was to make the OP not quite as upset and hopefully not scrap an otherwise great car.

A Lincoln MKZ hybrid is rock soild too. You can get em surprisingly cheap too, so it might be worth a look too. It works exactly like hybrid synergy drive.

Sounds like you're on the right track, with an open mind. :)
