I bought mine from Byers Toyota in Delaware. Don't know whether or not there was a waiting list. Mine came in 2 days after I placed the order. AFAIK price variation is extremely small in regard to the Prius. Every Toyota dealer in town gave me almost exactly the same quote.

I have not seen the screen on the new 2010 models but wasn't the prior year's screen different? I thought in 2006 they upgraded the screen to a higher resolution. I have a 2004 that I am so used to that I don't have anything to compare it to other than the portable units that I have. So, here's my question, is the 2010 LESS resolution than the 2009?

I know it has a different look than my 2007 did -- when it is in the Nav mode. It looks like a slightly lower resolution on the screen, but I don't know whether it is related to size of the screen or the program. I do know that when the screen is showing the rear-view camera it appears to be at least the same resolution, if not higher.

OP have you at least gone to the NavTeq website to report map issues so they can be fixed in later editions? Any one who has a problem with their nav really should do this.

the software of the mapping program controls the res as the quality of the camera controls the picture on the backup. i also think the backup camera view is much improved.

I'm certain you are right on both counts.

I should have added this to my earlier comments: Regardless of whether the Nav screen appears to be a lower resolution, I like the Nav in my 2010 MUCH more than the one in my 2007. It is hardly perfect, but it has worked well for me. I don't doubt the troubles others have had, but they just haven't hit me.

I lowered the brightness and contrast on my screen, Looks better and this Nav works better than my 06 and the voice system is Much much better. Only problem in voice can't say the name of a place. Havn't seen how that works. Its on the main screen but can't say the name of a place only if you know the address. Any one else find that problem or am I missing something.

I own a 2010 Prius III with Nav. We also own a 2004 Prius with NAV and I had a Garmin in my last car. The 2010 Nav system works great. I get the feeling alot of the negative nellies here just haven't taken the time to actually drill into the menus and get their nav setup properaly and/or get used to a different system than the Garmin. I have yet to encounter a problem and the interface is much improved over the last version. To be honest, the Garmin was not nearly as dependeble AND having a dash mounted piece of hardware was a pain in the %$*. I guess I don't need to remind people that forums are usually populated with people having problems and tend to skew negatively...I hate reading about people making decisions based soley on forum comments......If I had any gripe with the Prius Nav its that the setup isn't as intuitive as it could be...but all you have to do is learn how to customize it. Its a tool and, like any other tool, will work wonderfully if the user takes to time to use it right.

I hope my comments earlier were balanced (or at least not taken as negative). I do feel that on both Pioneer and Garmin systems the map data was more detailed for my area, and for $1,800 I feel that is a premium price so I think it is fair to expect much more than what you get with a $250 Garmin... (That, or if the features are the same, the price should be comparable...)

I think the voice recognition on the Prius Nav is pretty neat and so far she's gotten me to where I want to go fairly successfully. I also own a Garmin Nuvi so I do have something to compare to. There's still a lot for me to learn about the Prius Nav. One thing I find frustrating is that it only tells you a subset of the available categories etc. and it won't let you list all the commands if you're moving. They don't seem to include all the commands/categories in the user manual either. Can anybody tell me where I can find a listing?

Also, is there any way to turn the prompts to "brief" mode? It takes so long for her to say Please say a command, such as........." We don't need to be reminded every time, especially when it won't give you ALL the commands!

The last two pages of the "Navigation System Quick Reference Guide".

Yes, I did that right away. You go into "Setup" and select "Voice" and set "Voice Recognition Guidance" to off.

Or you can leave it on and skip over the voice prompts you don't need by just pressing the button again and saying the next command.

If I'm not mistaken, navi system on the US models is based on DVD whereas in Europe it is based on HDD. What are the differences between them?

If you want to leave the prompts on you can interrupt them at any time and skip right to the beep by pressing the voice recognition button while she's talking. (I wish I could do that with my ex-wife.)

    This works for many situations!!

I have only been with a couple people with the hand held models but I found them irritating, if you leave them in you car they can prompt vehicular break-in. There are differences to get used to in the 2010 Nav but I went through LA this past w/e and found it to be very efficient. I love the amount of info I can get on POIs. I prefer in car models.

I bought my Prius III last Thurdsay, but have yet to pick it up, as it it being prepped and the seats are being switched from cloth to leather.

You people are scaring me. :( I have never used a navigation system, but my husband has one in his Jeep, and it works great.

What is the general consensus here? Is the problem with the disk? Does anyone know if the problems have been reported to Toyota?

The NAV system works fairly well in the 2010 Prius.

The 'debate' is how well. (Is it accurate to a few hundred feet to a house, does it have the features that Garmin and Tom Tom have, etc.)

Don't let the discussion scare you, it will be fine.
