MCSJ, to each his own, I guess. I certainly wouldn't want a big display on my dash that did nothing but show fuzzy fisheye views of stuff behind my car, which I don't look at anyway because when I back up, I turn around to see where I'm going :)

Seriously, though, I think the only reason they gave us the camera on the gen 2, is because it already had the display there for other reasons, as a standard feature.

Toyota has told us that they have thought about and considered all of this, and I'm sure there are financial considerations we won't be privy to.

That said, I, too would buy the following...

Tech package + solar roof on 15" rims, +/- LEDs (but would prefer), +/- NAV & backup camera. Keep the washer thing. Keep the sun roof. +/- Leather, but I want fully adjustable.

I would think that the 15" would easily make up for any alleged MPG hit the added weight of both solar and tech package would give you.

Count me as one of the new converts. I know most dedicated priusers would disagree, but the 17s are worth 2-3mpg less (the moonroof, not so much). Those itty-bitty 15s just look so dorky. Combine the 17s with the new sleeker, less-bubbled look, and the 2010 is one fine lookin' vehicle.

Wow! Guess I'll be finding out the trade-in values for a 2005 and a 2006 Prius, since I'm sure my wife and I will both want one!

It's bundled with the navigation system. I don't know if it's available on non-nav models or whether it's bundled with the JBL audio system.

I didn't mention anything about packaging. However it's laid out on the first page will be taken as official.

Not that I know of. You might have to clean the driver's side vent (just wipe the fins down) as well as vacuum the car more often (as the ions settle the dust down). This is from reports of TCH owners.

Nice. You wanna take over the job for providing the options list lol. I've updated the Prius III equipment in the KB.

Nope. It can be equipped, yes and there may be regional packaging, yes but if you wanted a Prius V without NAV or AT, you can order one.

Umm, you know you can reprogram the locks right? You can have the driver's door unlock all doors.

Also, you might wanna read up on the STAR Safety System before criticizing it. The STAR Safety System is basically TRAC, VSC, ABS w/EBD and Brake Assist. It has no subscription (I laughed at that comment, sorry :D).

I agree on your position on the backup camera, esp. when other Toyota models are having them offered without nav (Highlander and RAV4 for example)

Cause the MFD ain't cheap. You feel like paying $4k for your backup camera? I'm sure you'll have something to say about that.

It's either part of the NAV (For sure since I saw the pairing option for "Car MULTIMEDIA" and the BT option under AUDIO) or the JBL audio upgrade

But the 15" may not be able to handle the weight of the roof and the AT package.

I do agree that the power lumbar support should be standard esp. if it's available on the Corolla (Canada only, also includes power driver's seat)

    Windstrings,

Please put the covers back on. You're hurting my eyes.

If you don't buy the Reverse Camera option, does it mean you also won't get the dreaded Reverse Beep???

Yeah, as bad as those covers are, what's under them is SO much worse...

I agree with efusco, if they were able to put the 15's on the platinum but still get the solar/moonroof I think people would jump on it... But tideland's got a point as well that maybe they cant handle the extra weight or handling would maybe suffer a lot. If that's the case how's about engineering some nice 16's? Lol

All in all, even w/o being able to get the solar with the platinum, I think the car is amazing having now seen it in NYC and eagerly await May.

Even if it has the reverse beep, you could easily disable it. (not a hack or anything, its built in by Toyota to disable it) That was the first thing I did with my 06'.

Yes, I noticed that. Helps me resist the 17s.

Here's another thing: Both the 15" covers and the 17s have a design where the spokes are asymmetrical. There are two possible design rationales for this. (Bear with me here, I run a design consulting firm and am sensitive to these things.) One rationale is that there is a function to the asymmetry, like to draw air in to cool the brakes when the wheel rotates forward. The other rationale is that there is EXPRESSIVENESS in the asymmetry, that the design looks right rotating forward. IN EITHER CASE, the rationale falls flat if the wheels on the other side of the car are not mirror images of the ones on this side.

Well, based on what I saw last night, the rationale falls flat. There were no mirror image wheel designs on any of the cars. In both cases, to my eye, the wheels on the passenger side roll "backwards". Drives me nuts. So, for me that's another mark against the 17s. The 15s with the covers removed don't have any design rationale problem, that I can tell from the one picture I've seen.

p.s. to those of you who prefer the covers to the naked alloy 15s: I think you're nuts. Those covers are absolutely the dorkiest. :)

Yea, the pic is a little blurry eh?... I stole it from one of my videos.

As far as the Plasmacluster... I'm not saying they are not totally cool to have.... its just a little known fact that is not in the manual of a typical Ionizer you buy at walmart.. you have to call tech support to find out that the fins themselves have to be replaced after 2 or 3 years too if you want them to keep working as they loose allot of mass over time.

Hopefully no one will complain about the smell of the ionized air.. some like it while others make a big stink about the ozone being a health risk.
I figure, one breath of second hand cigarette smokes gets you worse than a month of ozone.

I made it about 100 feet into the Casino, and I had to turn back as my eyes were burning with my contacts.

Cleaning them is just routine maintenance.

    Try this one:

Shows the right rear tire on the Blue Ribbon Metallic car from PCD. The 15's W/O covers are symmetrical. The covers are what contribute to the asymmetry.

Well, first off - Doug - THANK YOU for getting this info out to us. It does make pre-ordering a heck of a lot easier. I bet it does the same for you - you must have been swamped with inquiries over this...

Well, i say "boo" too.. Doug did say this would be a good place for him to collect feedback...
As for the LEDs - I'm a little suprised that weight would be that much of an issue - I'd hardly imagine that even a step down transformer or ballast of any kind is required - they should be *lighter* than a halogen system. Oh well, I'm sure there's a reason, or that I'm wrong about this...

    Cheers!

Hmm. I was told something different than what you observed, so I'm wondering whether there is a missunderstanding or the wheels on the show car are not the wheels that will be used. I thought I heard the Chief Engineer say that the wheel and wheel well design were such that they would draw air through the wheel well in a way that would diminish turbulence.

The only drawback would be for someone who used tires that were going to be cross-rotated. Who that person would be, I just don't know. I agree to the aesthetic offense of the passenger side wheels at a stop. I doubt there would be any offense in motion!

Someone likely has pictures to make the point!!

Edit: And, for what it's worth, I don't see the great offense to the eyes of the bare 15" wheel. It isn't quite as nice as the current 16" bare wheels, but I would run without the snap-on rims.
