Thanks for your device info. Can you tell us how long (and how much) you have been using it? What is your review of your device?

Can you report in with reviews of OBD II devices (preferably inexpensive) you have purchased with short review (1 star to 5 stars? ). Dimension that it protrudes from OBD connector would be helpful. I've read that some adapters are taller and stick down more and are more prone to bumping and breaking the device while plugged in, especially if you leave it in most of the time.

 

I see in PlayStore Torque lite (free) and Torque Pro ($4.95). $4.95 is certainly inexpensive, but I thought I would ask what you guys recommend. Torque Lite or Pro. Just in case there is some kind of a downside to Torque Pro (vs. Lite).

I don't think you can add the PiP PID's on lite.

In Lite version i cannot communicate with OBDII (Xperia Arc C + Android 2.3.4). With Torque Pro no problem with BT connection. Not to mention really nice graphic interface and capability. Do not hesitate.

 

For everyday, always available use, you can't top a ScanGauge. But the data available is quite limited. For example:

The use of an app requires a smart phone or tablet, which runs down its battery and requires mounting each time you drive. It can be far more informative though. See:

I actually have both devices connected all the time. I purchased an ODB-II splitter, which has worked like a charm. So, I use the ScanGauge constantly. Bluetooth for the app is mostly limited to filming and rare other occasions when I want to know more.

John, Thanks for the great info & video. Reading on Amazon reviews it seems ordering one item, you may get something different with lots of variability on if it works with some phones/cars. argh.

While running Torque Pro, can you make and receive BT calls as normal thru car's speakers/mic.?

 

Anyone using an OBD2 to Micro USB cable to connect their Android instead of a BT adapter? Only cable I found was with a regular USB connector.

But then I could not find a female/female connector to connect this to my USB/ Micro USB charge cable.

 

I just ordered the adapter John linked to above. I should get it tomorrow (paid $3.99 for one day shpg). I'll download Torque Pro later and check it all out.

Most likely. I haven't actually tried that. But on the drive home today with Torque connected and streaming music, I got a text (audio via the speakers) and replied with a preset message. That's 3 different Bluetooth services active all at the same time with the same device.

 

Very good to know. The adapter will hopefully arrive today, albeit likely in the evening. Then I'll need to steal my wife's Android phone to download Torque Pro. I understand with Torque Pro you can disable the back up bell (gotta remember where I saw that). This will make my wife VERY happy. Hopefully enough that she won't mind me learning and playing with Torque while we drive to the family Christmas gathering tomorrow.

Thanks for the link. So I have to download some file, find it on the PC and do something with it... Assuming I get this LG G Pro 4.1.2 to ever detect the BT adapter ( no luck yet ), I will need to venture into the unfamiliar PC world (wife's laptop, I am a Mac person), to try to see if I can figure that out. Tough when the OS is so foreign to me, but I will give it a go later.

 

New to this. What are 'gauges'? And I guess disconnected means well out of BlueTooth range, or BT turned off, right.

 

I have torque pro with the custom pids installed.

Can someone tell me which are the important values? And when they become critical?

I watch your gauges in complete awe. My ICE never completely shuts off unless I am going below ~20mph. It will only go as low as about 920 rpm, but it is always on unless I brake. You show acceleration in the 40's and 50's with 0 RPM.

Should my 2010 Prius ICE be turning off at higher speeds when coasting or lightly accelerating? That may be why I never see MPG like many of you get. There is no way I could get 60 MPG. My best is 56 MPG.
