Wow! This sounds like a nightmare. I'm beginning to wonder about the 2010 Prius, after reading about all the problems with them here on the forum. I have 37M+ miles on my 2006; and I've had absolutely NO (zip, nada) problems of any kind. My 2001 Echo (which I'm trading in on a new Nissan Leaf Electric) has 68M+ miles; and I've never had an engine light come on. None of these two cars have ever been to a dealer since I drove them out of the showroom. I do all my own oil/filter/air and cabin filter/fluidchecks maintenance myself. So, I've never had dirty fingerprints/smudges on the seats either.

I agree with Mike Dimmick. If this is in the harness then it is almost certainly a connector problem. 2nd, option is that the harness is pinched somewhere. However, replacing the main harness is going to be very involved, i.e. probably pulling apart the dash, the carpeting, seats. and it probably feeds through the firewall a couple of times. Make sure you check carefully that they put everything back together nicely and didn't scratch anything. If you can convince them to give you a new car, then do it. It probably won't work, but you can try. I'd be pretty upset.

edmcohen also had it right. This is not an endemic problem, it is a one-of. The genIII, so far, appears to be just as reliable as any other Toyota, at least with a 1 year baseline.

    p.s. tmowner2010, do you really have a Prius I, i.e. a fleet prius?

Thanks for pointing this out. I have a Prius II and it was delivered with only 4 miles.

Essentially, that's what the SA said: for a car this new, he's never seen anything like this. BTW, I was told that the harness was going to cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $2800.00 and by the time everything was done... it'll probably be like $3,300.00 to $3,500.00 (all warranted). I tend to agree about putting everything back together.

I would push for a replacement vehicle. Dash out, seats out, carpet out....... no thanks. if they miss something it will rattle like nuts.

    Ditto on that,
Let them worry about reselling it as CPO.

Personally, if this was me, I'd go balls to the wall to get a new car.
