I like to have engine bay underpanel off too, and front raised enough that you can crawl under. Also drain 2 quarts of coolant from radiator (into clean container), will avoid any spill when cooler is disconnected from coolant hoses. Pour back into reservoir (with vent open or topmost hose disconnected) after all is reassembled.

Any automotive shops perform the EGR cleaning in Northern California?

I have not found one yet.

So when does one disconnect the 12v battery cable then?

Well, I had planned on actually doing it by removing the wiper motor cowling anyway. And I am aware that its really needed. It’s just that I’m really don’t have the time right now to get to it. Plus I don’t have access to a garage to do it in. But it’s on the list. Thanks for the advice.

I had also thought about disconnecting the 12 volt when I did the egr cleanup because I was afraid that if I didn’t it might throw a code. I also did some research on testing the resistance on the solenoid on the one that I thought of replacing the old one with. Seems to be in spec. But not sure if it might be any cleaner or not. Just was thinking of washing out the old one with some carb solvent or something and reinstalling it.
