Bought a new 2010 (built 10/10) Barcelona Red IV with 20 miles on 2/16 for $1000 under MSRP, and got 0% for 60 months, saving a *huge* amount on interest.
Not too sure that I got a great deal, but I love my car so far. I just bought it Tuesday: 2010 Prius IV in Classic Silver with 19K miles on it, CPO. It was a company car, and is spotless and beautiful. Dark grey leather with heated seats, bluetooth, under dash lighting, disc changer, Sat ready, JBL, etc. No NAVI. They wanted $24,730 for it. I negotiated down to $24,000 and couldn't get them lower. Wanted it for $23,000. I had the choice between this and a new 2011 Prius Base with not much in it all. The only thing I liked about the new one was the zero milage, Illuminated door sill protectors, and rear decal (which I can add for the cost difference being that the new one was about $740 more). I know it's not the best deal, but I love it so far. Up next is window tinting. Oh yeah, I paid cash for it. No financing or extra warranty/service crap! I'm good to go...
The last post here - in one of the most popular forums -- is more than a month old. Anybody bought a Prius in April????
Probably because in April, the negotiating prices on Prius, have not been as attractive as in the previous months. :[ Sorry folks.
Your city isn't crazy -- the dealer is trying find someone so desperate to save on gas they will overpay. Can't blame the dealer -- they know some dim bulb is sitting at home fretting over gas prices who may actually walk into the showroom with an open check book.
We purchased our Prius II (blue ribbon metallic) for MSRP on 4/26/11. I haven't seen any mark-ups from MSRP as of yet, but inventory is way down. Had to check a couple of dealers to find any new ones, and even the highest volume Toyota dealer in the area only had 3 to choose from. Where I've seen the insane mark-ups are on the used cars. The dealer had a few 2007s-2009s on the lot, and not a single one was listed for less than $24,995. I'm thinking, why would I buy a used 2009 with 20k+ miles for MORE than a new car with similar options?
I purchased a Prius Three without Nav for very slightly under MSRP yesterday. The dealer had a dozen or so prii a week ago and is down to 1 on the lot today - must have been a busy weekend. Thanks for all the tips - I've been lurking and reading. Cheers, Ethel
I'll pick mine up on Thursday. Paid $26,850 base trim level IV, $760 destination, $300 dealer prep and $200 for floor mats for a total of $28,110. I was happy with that for a IV. Z
These last few posts got me wondering how much prices have gone up using a buying service like USAA, which is what we used to purchase both our Hybrids. So, I got on USAA this morning and priced two identical models and was shocked at the increase, but also pleasantly surprised at the saving we experienced by buying when we did... He's a comparison of the USAA Prices then and now: 2010 Prius III w/Nav (31 Jul 2010): $23,088 2011 Prius III w/Nav (4 May 2011): $27,306 Difference: $4,218 2010 Lexus HS250h Premium w/Nav (31 Jan 2011): $35,432 2011 Lexus HS250h Premium w/Nav (4 May 2011): $41,190 Difference: $5,758 So, the combined saving from purchasing before gas prices started to climb and before the shortages caused by the diaster in Japan: $9,976! These are all before TTL, so figuring in the extra tax, the true figure would be more than $10K! Disclaimer: This post is not intended to make folks purchasing now feel bad, but merely to demonstrate how much prices have risen from just a few months ago! And, the prices depicted above, are the current discounted prices offered through USAA, not MSRP!
I picked mine up in NY on Apr. 5 and did not negotiate price at all. I paid $27,810 + tax. Supposedly they charged "MSRP" $26,850 (I always get a kick out of the usage of that b.s. term) + $200 for floor and cargo mats (which I personally think come from the factory in each car at no additional charge to the dealer....like the old days when they used to charge for undercoating which was on EVERY car at the factory) + the famous dealer "handling fee" $760 + the famous "transfer/inspection/lic plate" fees.....Traded in a 2000 Subaru Outback Ltd wagon and got $5K for it on the deal. Have no idea whether a good or bad overall deal, but I do like this little car so far.
Jeez, this is "unfortunate" as my 6 year old son would say....I should of started the buying process back in February as I had planned. Now I and everyone else, I guess..stand to loose a couple of grand because of gas prices and the Disaster in Japan..I just put in order/deposit in a Prius 2 at MSRP..24,280..(I estimate OTD will be close 26?) and all I could get was Free Door edgings....I'll get better carpert Mats off PriusChat!..also, I couldn't even get them to reserve the price..just in case Toyota increase MSRP again.. Andybody else out there have any luck with getting one?
I picked mine up 4 days ago. I put a deposit on it at the beginning of May, and it arrived exactly when they had expected it. Actually, it arrived early. Like you, I should have looked back in February, but I put it off, and put it off some more. I really had to get a car though, and just go for it. My Corolla wasn't going to last much longer, and I hated the thought of putting 20 more qts. of oil in it until November or so. I paid MSRP of $25,037. My Two has illuminated door sills, and chrome rocker panels... so that brought up the price a little. I'm just happy to be in it. I really wanted a Three, and they had one in Blue Ribbon, but I wanted Silver. The JBL and NAV are just "wants" not "needs". I was paying enough as it is. Didn't see paying sticker of $27,900 for a Three when I don't really need the extras. The paperwork process was easier than I thought. I was done in 10 minutes. Just got back from making the appointment to get the windows tinted. Can't wait!!
That's awesome! I sooo envy you! sounds like a beauty...actually, I think you posted pics because you posted on my thread about waiting till the fall or buying now... Im with you though..prius 2 is all I need with some mods..hehe..
That's just insane. During the "unintended acceleration" fiasko, my local dealership was begging me to lease a 4 for 190 per month. I actually wish that I bought a Gen 3 back then. However, my Gen 2 is still working flawlessly at 75K miles, so I decided to keep driving and waiting for the plug-in version.
Does anybody here think prices will go down to 2010 levels come end of year or early next year? If so, how much do you think a 2011 Prius 2 would go for when the dust settles and I buy, say in November? I put in an order already for 2011 prius 2 for 24,280 with Door edge guards and no mats. According to the post below, I could of gotten a Prius 3 with nav...so I am considering seriously just to wait.
2010 w/7300 miles, was used as service loaner to customers. Paid $21000 less my 2005 4runner 65000 mile trade $18000 = $3000 plus taxes. I was happy. No nav system no sun roof, bottom barrel car but great mileage. So far 5 fill-ups I have saved $383 over the 4 runner.
Dealer: Walker Valley Subaru Renton, WA Car: 2010 II Prius Date: June 2011 Miles: 14858 Price: $24500 Trade In Value: $4000 Price In Total w/out trade: $26509 (TT&L Included) Price In Total w/trade: $22509 (TT&L Included) They wanted $25500 and I traded in a 2002 VW Golf w/ 102000K in fair condition. Anyway I do love the fuel milage and even though people say "why did you buy a prius" I show them all the cool stuff it can do as well as how it works, and of course tell them my gas milage, then they say "wow that thing is pretty cool."
