I asked Costco to send request to two dealers, one quoted $ 1,000 below invoice, and another one was $500 off MSRP. It appears Costco negotiated with dealers individually, you can get very different quotes.
I sent my best quote to dealers to bid on. I found many dealers drop off around $750 below invoice. Economy around DC is rather stable, people are spending, may be a little less compare to two years ago.

Thank you for sharing the information. I used this price as my bottom line for getting price quote for a Prius III with Nav. The lowest quote I got so far is 23,950$, not including tax and DMV license fee. I am wondering if this is a good deal.

O.K. Here is the final price I got:
    Price $24550

    tax$2398.99
    DMV Fees $405.75
    Doc $55
    Rebate <750>
    Total $26659.74

the price of 24,550 matches mainerinexile's price of 23,800 considering 750 rebate.
I think I will try to get dealer to remove the 55 doc fee. Other than that, does this deal sound a good deal? any feedback is highly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Sounds like a deal to me. Maybe see if you can get something else thrown in. I got a cargo net free at the last minute, but I am also congnisant that the art of the deal is to find a win-win situation. They may be the 'stealership' as some call them, but we also want them to stay in business, and I want the salesman to make a living.

Thanks for replying. I officially become a Prius owner today. It is a Pearl Prius III with Nav.
    MSRP: 27,000
    Price: 23,700 after 750 rebate

I almost gave up because I couldn't get interest rate of 0% or 1.9%. But one dealer lowered the price from original 24,000 (including 200$ extra for the color) to 23700 as well as 3.9% for 5 years. I figured I will pay off early to avoid interest rate.

I learned a lot from this forum, especially negotiating through email. After reading some horror story about car dealership, I don't think I would have bought the car today if I had to go to a dealership and negotiate face-to-face. I did all of the negotiation through email, which allow me to get equipped with more information especially through this forum. It is a great forum.

Now I can update my profile here to be a proud Prius owner. :)

I had my local dealer change the terms of the agreed deal. Found Diane Whitmire on Prius Chat. She is at Manhattan Beach Toyota and posts good information and special deals on this board. She came through for me. Well worth the hour drive and she was very knowledgeable and professional.

Hello everyone. First time here and am thrilled w/this site and the active members. I might be purchasing a Prius in the near future...if the price is right. I'm considering a Prius IV w/moonroof, though I don't care for a solar cooling package, the Nav, nor the high premium. This is a bit of a lengthy message so thank you for your patience.

Those w/a Prius 2010, how hot are your vehicles getting? I understand the older Prius models are hot houses if parked in the sun.

Admin: Please move if this is in the wrong place...

    Price Tracker
I like the idea of the price tracker, but didn't see any prices there except down deposit - even when clicking in there was no price paid ~ what am I missing?

    Bogus Charges
Is there value in members listing out what might be considered 'bogus' charges in the sale, for instance Doc Prep fees? These look as if they are pure profit bogus fees (much like junk fees in mortgages).

    Accessories
Would it be handy to have a little database of what people are paying for accessories (both at time of sale of vehicle, and post sale)?

    Pricing
Anyone have inside knowledge on dealer incentives and ways which the dealer is making money on the Prius that is not as visible to the consumer? Obviously looking for excellent pricing...w/a realistic price point that a dealer will accept. One post mentioned a holdback of 550, plus other unknown incentives.

    Tips in Dealing
I'm generally comfortable dealing w/dealers for cars... done it many times and most experiences were positive on both sides. Haven't done it in a while and if you have any tips, new trends etc, please list them. I'm all about the right price point... no rush to purchase, can wait until the cows come home.

Anyone successful w/a transaction that was 90% done electronically - where you essentially go in to sign the papers? What was your experience? So far it appears that most dealers won't deal via email...insisting on a visit or a phone conversation at the least...which I won't do...not at this early stage. "Internet Sales Teams" that only generate canned messages urging the visit or the phone call. I've contacted roughly 10 dealers in my initial exploratory search and with only a few that would actually communicate in email (after a week, I would reach out a second time to the dealers who never responded); one person told me in an email that it was 'policy' for someone to visit the showroom first to sign some documents before discussing specifics (meaning availability, price, options etc.) via email.
-> To the person who purchased instructions on dealing via email, I ask if would share your report now that you purchased your vehicle, or share tips. Some of the posts mentioning this report look as though they might be posted by the author :)eek:)

    General Questions:
    - Think there is value waiting for the 2011 model? I'm in no 'need' of a vehicle, though I've been waiting for the plug-in that just keeps getting pushed back. Thought here is to purchase for the interim, then upgrade around version two of a plugin which might be 2015.
(I also ask, in this scenario, if pricing for a 2010 model would be better now (w/all the bad pr) or in Oct. when the 2011 models are announced?
    - Anyone able to recommend good aftermarket fog lights for a Prius 2010? Easy to install?
    - Vent mount for an iPhone
    - What extras do you wish you purchased, or wish you didn't purchase?
    - Any good hacks?
    - I'm reading a fair amount about rattles and noises...thoughts?
    - Roof rack: Anyone using a roof rack they would recommend? Hoping to have mounts themselves semi-permanent installed, racks installed on demand as needed.

    Wish List
    - Toyota would include a moonroof withOUT the solar cooling package (and w/o the related solar pricetag).
    - Package V w/moonroof. I've asked (many many times) why no solar roof w/package V and I'm told 1) weight (to which I say exchange the larger wheels for sunroof) and 2) wires are run through the ceiling on the model V?
    - Plug-in (mentioned often)

Hi there. I just purchased a 2010 Prius III with Solar Package, Wheel Locks, Mats, and Red color for $26,800 from Modern Toyota in NC on April 1, 2010. With 3% state tax, title, documentation, the total came to $28,179. I received quotes from 4 different dealerships throughout NC, and the car price ranged from $26,400 to $28,405 for the same vehicle (yes, the delta was that large; add tax, title, and doc fees to this range).

Note that Consumer Reports' bottom line price was $25,655 and Edmunds TMV was $26,156 (+ tax and fees). So my bottom line price was $26,400 just for the vehicle with the Solar package option and the two accessories.

BTW, the reason why I did not go with the initial dealership who matched my bottom line price was that they wanted me to sign a Privacy Notice giving them complete permission to share/sell my personal and financial information for "marketing purposes". They did not allow me to opt out, and they would not put any clarifications concerning their Privacy Notice in writing, so I walked away from the sale. Their Prius even had leather seats at no extra charge...

Which dealer did you use? And was that the total on the road, or were there additional fees? Thanks.

anybody getting decent April deals? It seems the dealers want to use the $750 rebate to give that much less discount.

I used Truecar.com to arrive at a loose target figure, then got email quotes from all local dealers for the same vehicle (although some didn't want to provide the quote without meeting with me). Then visited the lowest and promptly was told that the email quote did not include this and that crap. Walked out and went to the next lowest. Haggled for two hours and finally got the price I was looking for (but this was February when they were really starving). Bought this Prius II for $1,400 under invoice. If you are not in immediate need, you have a great advantage. Also, do not be hesitant to tell local dealers that you will seek deals from non-local dealers, if necessary. I met three buyers who had flown in to Louisville to pick up their Priuses here (including one from Seattle).

As I purchase vehicles primarily for dependable and economic travel, I rarely consider "comfort" options, so can't be much help here.

It would seem to me that flying from out of town would erase some, if not all, of the savings procured from such a dealer (not to mention driving the vehicle back home).

What $750 rebate are you talking about??? From what I am seeing, there is no rebate current.
