The image is of the pipe clogged, pretty bad. Did you by any chance remove the egr valve
from the replacement and clean the cooler?
The valve from the 2014 may be the upgraded version and need the software up date from Toyota,
or independent shop capable of perfroming the update.

To not spend some money, you could clean the cooler you took off, and install that one, if you can't
see through the one that's on now with the valve off (both still on the car), clean the original valve,
and install that one. After cleaning it

Leak down test, I think. It pressurized cylinders, one at a time, with special gauge set. The gauge readings, plus listening/feeling at various parts of the engine, tells if and where head gasket is leaking.

an experienced pro doing this for you would be most expedient I think.

It could be stuck open. If the engine roughness isn't too bad you might test it by commanding EGR step position in Techstream.

    moto g power ?

Would a malfunctioning valve trigger a check engine light?

There's no sensor watching over what the valve does. If there's a detectable electrical problem in the circuit, you'll get P0403, and if the manifold pressure doesn't rise when the valve is opened for the self test, you'll get P0401. That's about all the problem detection that's possible.

Thanks guys. I plan to remove the intake manifold and clean it really well (I don't think I cleaned it as well as I needed to when I removed it during the EGR cooler replacement). Also, I have a spare old EGR valve that I will use to replace the one I have on the car. I'll let you now when I get that work done. Hopefully that will fix it!

New old guy with 2010 230k.
Im installing a cat shield and i might as well replace pvc from below.
Now I want a new oil catch can.Do I need to unplug hybrid battery for safety? Will that cause any reset problems?
I saw a youtuber install a plain plug at pvc and run a hose up to catch can in easy to reach upper corner. He said to install new pvc in hose pointed up to occ so that an extra 2-3 feet to pvc would prevent any low pvc clogging.
    Good Idea?
    thanks fellas!

No need to disconnect hybrid battery, or 12 volt for that matter.

first link in signature has OCC info. (On phone turn it to landscape)

It’s PCV btw, Positive Crankcase Ventilation. Link in sig links to thread with how-to splice into PCV hose.
