I just bought a Prius with a Distributor Installed Option "QS9 Remote Security System", but the dealer could not explain what it was. Does anyone know?

Check out the Prius Japan website. I can't read Japanese, but the bottom right-hand corner shows a screen shot of the audio screen, and it says "HDD" at the top. I would assume that stands for "Hard Disk Drive", although I suppose it could be an external (i.e., iPod) drive.

My dealers claim that the 07 aren't coming anytime soon...like December at the earliest. Are they just trying to get me to purchase one of the remaining 06's. I guess if 06's aren't being produced any longer, that would explain my difficulty in finding the color/package I want (classic silver+package 4 FWIT) Basically, autoway wants a nonrefundable $1000 deposit for them to even attempt to locate the color/package I want. They won't give any assurance that I would recieve it before Oct. 1 (i.e. full tax refund cutoff date). So, I figure it would be better to wait for the new model...especially if they're coming soon enough to recieve the $1550 tax refund.
Should I be able to find a dealer that will let me place an order for an 07 around St. Petersburg, Florida or are "preorders" relatively rare? Maybe somebody has a contact in my area?

I sure am thankful that there is a community where consumers doing their "homework" can go and get the straight dope...who would've thought a car salesman might try to......."stretch" the truth.

Just put my $500 deposit down yesterday (8/4/06). :D Base on the info in the preceeding postings, I'm not sure if I'm getting a 2006 or a 2007. Anticipated delivery date is 10/15.

If there's someone in the know, has a crystal ball, or best educated guess...If I do receive a 2007, since I ordered a pkg 4 based of the 2006, will the 2007 also be a pkg 4? '07 packages are more generous with the add-ons.

For what it is worth, I get lots of compliments on the pretty color of my metallic pistachio (aka "silver pine mica") plus as a more neutral color it is easier to keep clean and less of a cop magnet.

Maybe with the tax credit incentive sales they ran out of '06 assemblies and rather than order additional for an old model year they just pushed forward with the '07. Keep in mind that many assemblies/sub-assemblies are probably not made by Toyota directly and come from vendors who have probably committed to delivering a fixed number of items. Production planning in Japanese companies doesn't usually allow for a lot of flexibility in the area of increasing (or decreasing) quantities.

Japanese blue - awesome - I'd trade my '06 for that!
Sunroof and height adjustable seating would be great!

    woah... look at their GPS...
    GPS map with houses?

Even mapped out the parking lot?

lanes on a highway?!! with trees?

Can I say that their GPS is years ahead of ours? My Garmin definately can not tell which lane I'm driving on a highway...

I don't understand, aren't they using the same GPS signals as ours? How can they get such high accuracy?

Wow, that does look great, but it's the same system. GPS signals are the same as ours. The big difference is that the Japanese Nav DVD only needs to cover the island of Japan. Compare that to the volume of geographic information needed for all of the continental US and Canada on the North American Nav DVD. In Japan, they have the available room on that DVD for all that minute detail.

A little help for those that are confused...well, at least the Chicago Region.

The 2006 Model is no longer available or able to be ordered.
The 2007 Models will not arrive by 9/30.
If the dealership gave you and ETA in October it will almost 99% be a 2007 Model.
My first 2007 is slated to land at my dealership on 10/04.

Side Note: Toyota has increased their production from 100,000 Prius Units per Year to 170,000 Prius Units per Year! This should definitely help with availability across the country.

A warning to those reading this thread: These options only apply to US cars. If you plan to buy a car in Europe or Asia you can skip reading.

I live in Sweden. The options for Prius 2007 are completely different here, no #1-#7. The options are Standard, Business, Executive, Park assist.

Hindsight being 20/20, I know of someone who picked up an '07 from you right under the wire, on 9/30. Must have to do with Toyota's increasing its production.

There are a few people, braving the odds, who actually DID get the '07 before the full tax credit was halved.

There was no way for you to know, at the beginning of September, that some actually *would* arrive before October but they did arrive & he (& his wife) are thrilled.

    Kudos for both of you.
