Said to be steering by whom? The only lights I see in your photo are the ones from the brake system: brake, abs, vsc, and ((!)), which is known as the ECB light (electronically controlled braking).

Yes, we need to know the trouble codes. There are a couple hundred of them possible, and the same lights pretty much come on for every case, so before seeing the codes, we don't know why those lights are on.

If it's a lot of trouble to get the car somewhere that can get the trouble codes using a scan tool, there is an easy way you can do it yourself. With a short piece of skinny wire poked between the Tc and CG terminals of the car's diagnostic port, turn the car ON and count the flashes of those different lights on the dash. You'll see each one flashing one or more two-digit numbers. Keep track of which numbers got flashed by which lights, because that matters, and post them here.

A quick search on this forum will find you posts with pictures and the details I left out on how to do that.

    Ahh, those were the days.

Fords and their "numbers on the parts that aren't part numbers". Look like part numbers, sound and feel like part numbers, but no.

That's where I first came across "engineering numbers". Because that's the whole point of making parts, so that the engineers can play with the numbers years later when the car is broken.

It would be downright silly to be able to ID a part by just reading the number on it.

If those lights were on, there were codes. If son-in-law didn't get the codes, that typically means the scan tool that was used wasn't able to see them.

If the lights are still on, there are still codes, and you can still get them, using the light-blink method described above. That avoids the complications surrounding scan tools that can't always see all Prius codes.

If the lights are off now, son-in-law may have cleared the codes without reading them, in which case we won't know what was going on until they come back.

codes gotten and concerning: c1300, c1344, U0123, U0124, U0126. As there are not alot of Hybrid mechanics where I am and not sure I want to drive to TampaHybrids, I may have to look to dealerships. I was saving for a paint job but now it looks like TLC>

Maybe better to drive to Tampa Hybrids instead of dealer.
