    Welcome robochimp!

I'm in nj and have a new 06 as well. mileage has been very erratic- chalk it up to break in period and TIRE INFLATION. seems to be a key element. temperatures here make a difference as well but I gues you don't have the problem with the cold so much in CA. The info "why am I not getting the mileage" is very helpful.

    good luck!

    Hello,
I have 06 Black 8NW took delivery end of December and have 11,892 miles under foot. Drive in Houston and Louisiana. I range 48.2 to 52.3 combo City/hwy and only use Super. I have found that road surface is number one, wind is number two and hills are number 3. I have also found sweet spots of speed. On level surface 35,37,42 mph easy off the pedal then press lightly to ingauge batt power and ride........ And yes the faster you go the less MPG. Have not been able to get any better.

I drive the 118 and 210 from Chatsworth to Azusa (CA), and week after week average 48+. Before I got my carpool stickers, I was seeing 50-51, but wasting 20-30 minutes in traffic each way. I drive as fast as I need to to not get run over in the HOV, sometimes 80 (!). The other night I took a friend to the Dodger game, and as we crept along the 5 south, I was getting over 59 by the computer screen. He freaked out, and I acted like it was no big deal. Actually it was the best I've ever gotten, but I'm glad he was there to see it. He drives an 18mpg Premium gas Audi A4. :) Some say higher pressures help, but I haven't noticed any increase with 40/38. The same day I put on the freeway stickers I also removed my trim tings...your mileage may vary. I have just over 5000 miles, and do 45 miles each way, all freeway, moderate hills.
