About to turn quarter million miles on my 07. Just at 249,800 before today's trip, which should roll it over the 250K miles. Original battery, no issues, 45mpg average since 2017 when I bought it with 175K miles. I had to have the muffler pipe welded and I did do a front brake job on it around 200K miles. Other than that and regular oil changes every 5K miles not much has been done to it except driving. I love this car and want another really badly. But hoping this one will go another 250K.
Of course, plugs replaced when I bought it because when I asked the previous owner, who was also the original owner, have you replaced the plugs on it (at 175K miles, mind you)? He answered: it has spark plugs? He was an financial planner, lol. So yes, plugs, air filters and transmission oil have been replaced. Air filters every 30K-50K miles. I just neglected to list those items as they are not really repairs. I also have gone through some tires.
I'm currently at 207,000 on my 2007 Prius. 1) Did you replace the HV battery pack? Yes at 201K, remanufactured. 2) Did you replace the 12v lead-acid battery? Yes, 4x 3) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid? Yes, when MG2 was replaced at 105K 4) Did you replace the brake pads? No 5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)? About 44 6) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use? 5000 mi / Mobil 1 The only real negative was having MG2 fail with a shorted winding so early. Other than that, I didn't have much in the way of out of pocket maintenance. I did get the refurbished HV battery, but I don't consider that untimely. I also had the CD changer (console buttons failed), brake actuator, ICE water pump, and coolant heat storage tank pump serviced under warranty. I'm surprised I made it without having to do the brake pads; they're right close to the minimum. I thought I should chime in here, because this is goodbye. I just drove home a 2022 Kia EV6. I actually like the Prius a lot, but I was looking for a full EV rather than a PHEV. Thanks to everyone here.
Bought: 140k. Sold to mechanic @ 290k miles due to finding good deal on a Prius V. Final straw that got me looking for replacement is we were in a parking lot that was bone dry everywhere. I parked in front of the only mound of snow. I exited the vehicle to do something and my brother decides to get in drivers seat, and go forward...He gets stuck on the little tiny hill and the Prius had ugly damage: It had very minor front sway bar link noise last 10k miles, it had minor-to-moderate humming from front left wheel bearing, it had a CEL last 130k miles last time scanned was always P0456 "very minor evap leak", it had used-but-ok tires on it and a little wobbly (minor) on freeway but not bad due to mismatched tires and uneven wear. It had damage to rear (minor) and damage to front. It had a tire pressure light last 80k miles. It severely burned oil (nothing on dipstick after about 1800 miles). The hood latch cable busted last 5k miles mechanic hung a zip tie around the spring and that poked out of the hood and so you yanked the ziptie to open hood. Literally did nothing since rear struts (cheap internet kind) around 200k miles so basically the last 90k miles were 100% major-issue free. But as can tell I was not keeping up with normal maintenance and cosmetically was not doing so great. 1) Did you replace the HV battery pack? Nope. 2) Did you replace the 12v lead-acid battery? Nope. 3) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid? When I first got it at 140k. 4) Did you replace the brake pads? When I first got it at 140k while doing front wheel bearings. 5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)? 39-42 depending on weather. 6) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use? Top off every 1500-1800 miles (red oil light only kicked on 2 or 3 times due to laziness of not checking, aka running on a couple droplets). Immediate refill when that happened. Cheapest 5W30 (about $30) every 3-4k miles. 7) How about post a picture of 200,000 miles on ODO? N/A. The gen 2 never failed to start. Heat/AC/brakes never an issue. No blacked out screen issue. Never a bulb failure. Never an inverter pump issue. None of that type of stuff. Only thing was struts/wheel bearings/ oil burning. Prius V 10X nicer. All the fancy features with 2 moon roofs, super comfortable seating, heated seats, lots of space. Has 245k miles doesn't show it though. Should be good for couple years and willing to spend money on motor replacement if needed.
07 bought with 75k, 192k but this list isn't too long and I drive like a grandma HV about 20k ago 12v battery about 50k ago Passenger hub Intercooler pump Dash light controller thing Steering wheel hub control Stolen cat Wheel sensor Some weird rattles and a faded hood but the best car I've owned thus far.
1) Did you replace the HV battery pack? (Never but getting weak. Battery dies faster than usual) 2) Did you replace the 12v lead-acid battery? 3 times. 3) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid? (Never but scared to do it at this millage) 4) Did you replace the brake pads? ( 3 times) I know now to not bleed them myslef. Almost caused a crash. I needed a computer for proper procedure. 5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)? N/A But currently 32-37 at best 6) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use? ( Walmart conventional then syn, Then put used oil back in for 5 years, because it burned 1 qt every 500- 600 Miles, added engine restore and burns a little less oil now. Used 5w20 15w40 and 20w50. 7) How about post a picture of 200,000 miles on ODO?[/QUOTE] Total loss x2 frame damage including 1 roll over. Car stolen buy a guy who was supposed to fix it. Got it back with missing parts. Head gasket is toast blue devil x3 helped changed radiator dose not overheat anymore but still has an over pressurized coolant system. Drove to work with coolant temp at 250-270F for 2 hours eachway. Had no money for head gasket and thought the car was done so thats why put used oil back in. I Changed in the past every 5,000-10,000 miles but will change it every 4,000- 5,000 MI. Neglect was due to financial hardship. Also, previous owner (Partner) changed the oil when the Low-pressure light stayed on. That person was not mechanically smart. Smokes bad on startup but this made it trough hell and back more than a few times. The car only left me stranded once due to battery coolant pump going out. 10 tire blowouts. I learned a lot and baby it now to prevent any more damage. I have obd2 instrument cluster and carry a scan tool to erase P0aa6 high voltage leak code or it will not start. A/C still works ice cold never been touched but one fan did explode in a car accident.. Dash does not always turn on but if i leave the high beams on and roll up windows at same time while starting the dash comes on sometimes. Cataylic converter bad so I use RTV red seal. Everyone I know can not belive I still have this car. Here is the sherman tank.
I got my Prius 4th hand, and I'm less than 1,500 miles to reaching 200,000 miles. 1. Yes. Previous family owner did, several years ago. 2. I don't know. 3. I don't know. 4. Yes. 5. Since I've owned it, it's been dipping to 39mpg this year. 6. 5,000 miles / 6 months. Castrol Edge High Mileage, mostly. 7. I'll probably post it when I actually hit it.
With overwhelming numbers of Priuses reaching 100,000 miles, I thought it is time to do a 200,000 mile club. For 300,000 miles or above see this thread. For those that reached 200,000 miles, please post information about your ownership experience. Some questions to think of... 1) Did you replace the HV battery pack? No I also believe the pack is still pretty healthy since it's been in Socal all it life and the weather is mild. No extremes heat or cold in LA. 2) Did you replace the 12v lead-acid battery? 3 times 3) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid? 2 times 4) Did you replace the brake pads? 1 set at 190k 5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)? 38 mpg 6) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use? Every 5-7k and full synthetic from Kirkland and oem oil filter 7) How about post a picture of 200,000 miles on ODO? Blueballs and 200k pic. SM-A526U ?
2008 mid-model Gen2 getting 200k today! Just started seeing the speedometer go dark. Replaced the MFD digitizer. Replaced coolant control valve. Refurbished set of fuel injectors, new coil, and plugs recently. Consuming less oil now that I did a cheaper engine flush when I changed the oil, and fuel treatment with PEA for the top side. 1) Did you replace the HV battery pack? Not yet, Dr. Prius says it is still technically good, but I keep AC low. 2) Did you replace the 12v lead-acid battery? Just did that with an OEM, probably the 2nd one since new. 3) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid? On the list to do soon, not sure if it was done at dealer since new. 4) Did you replace the brake pads? Yes I think only once at about 90-100k 5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)? Mostly in the 40's, but have got in the 50's when freshly serviced. 6) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use? When the maintenance light came, but it started consuming oil. 7) How about post a picture of 200,000 miles on ODO?
Update. I just changed the oil after 14,000 miles. Not on purpose just slipped my mind. The oil level was down about a qtr quart.
What has your usual oil change interval been? Mine also doesn’t burn much oil. For the first 3000-3500 miles of my oil change it burns nothing, then as I get closer to 5,000 miles on my oil it burns a little bit. It’s either dumb luck, or because I’ve done Full synthetic @ 5000 mile intervals or both. Either way I do feel lucky.
I started using Mobil1 last oil change and I do 10kmi intervals. It's my daughter's car and she used to live across country and just took it to a local mechanic every 5000 miles that would do it with conventional oil I assume.
Perhaps there may be a valid case for a 5000 miles OCI after all. Not sure if you’ve seen carcarenut’s YouTube channel or not. He’s a Toyota master tech and is a stickler for 5000 miles/6months. I go by 5000 miles/1 year on full synthetic myself.
He’s actually a very, very honest master tech who only recommends work that needs to be done. I’ve learned a lot as a DIY’r from his vids. The guy is pretty much too busy to bother with oil changes at his shop. A friend of mine tried to get in for a brake actuator on his Lexus LX570, and there was a 2 month wait for an appointment.
I’m not sure either. He’s said something to the effect of- if you change your oil less often you can still easily get to 200,000 miles, but if you want your car to have a higher chance of going to 300,000 + miles, sticking to 5k/6 months is his recommendation. That and you have to be on top of all of the other maintenance too.
I can one up that. If you want you car to have an even higher chance, sticking to 1k/1month is even better.
