2002 210,950 miles 12v battery - yes by the dealer when I bought it with 78K HV Battery ='s original 1 set of spark plugs at 108K (have new ones on the bench - need to make time to install them) Few sets of tires Front brake pads and rotors at 125K Rear brakes - original Belts, hoses, fluids, exhaust, struts, alternator, waterpump ect... never changed since I have owned the car and I don't think the prior owner ever had any issues so it is all oem stuff. A/c works perfect, no light bulbs replaced, couple of sets of wipers. Consistant 48 mpg when I bought it. Saw as much as 52 a couple of times. Winter ='s minus 5 mpg. Last set of tires installed were the B381's looking to see what they did for mileage. Were supposedly the best for low rolling resistance. OE size was n/a. Had to go up one size with a 70 series. Never saw any mileage increase and never over 48 again with these tires. Wider and heavier is what I am thinking is the cause. Will go back to the oem size and see what happens. Now mileage is 42 - 45 with these tires. It has turned cold here in CT so I am expecting the numbers to drop a bit more. Oil changes at 3-5 K with Castrol Synthetic, 5w30 European formula. HV battery performance may not be what it once was. Seems to discharge a little (very brief input) and then takes a charge for a longer period of time than what I remember when I bought the car. May have gotten sensative to the cold more than before. I let it warm up before driving and it seems good to go. If I have an emergency and rush out (still driving easy until coolant temp is up enough to turn off the blue thermometer on the dash) it will throw a misfire code and a cat. code but run perfect. Capture the code and clear it and all is well. We will see what the really cold days will bring. I want my heated garage back. It has never left me stranded or stuck. It has cost me almost nothing for maint. especially when considering the mileage. It is a business use vehicle and has done me very well for yearly mileage on the tax return. One issue to speak of. Start the car in park, let it idle and after 15 seconds it will stall. Will restart without issue after turning off the key and waiting 5 seconds but the engine light and triangle will be on. Car will drive perfect (with the warning lights on). After turning off and starting again 4 times, the warning lights will clear. Believe it or not, the cure for this issue is to click the gear selector into neutral. Only needs a second or two and then you can shift back to park for engine warmup or into drive and away you go. I think it is an ECM issue and what ever happens when you click Neutral, bypasses the ecm issue and the car runs fine. This issue came about 2+ years ago and the click neutral thing is a natural thing in my routine (until I get into one of my other cars) so it does not bother me. The other cure for the engine stall is to start the car and get into drive asap and get on the gas hard to get the rpm's above idle speeds. Like being in neutral, this only needs to be for a brief rpm flare. The car runs fine after that. Either of these procedures needs to happen every time the car starts. The neutral shift is quick, simple and costs nothing. I love this car!
Bought Nov. 03, second month of the Gen 2 run. 7 years later hit 200,000 miles Warranty work: Couple of software upgrades, steering wheel shaft developed cracks replaced free. A/C compressor replaced under extended warranty at 95K (bad bearing). Repair work: Water pump, and rear struts replaced for around 400$. Total repair cost: under 1000$, including cost of extended warranty. Hymotion system installed Sep. 08, 75000 miles later, no premature hybrid system failures. This includes a 55 day stretch averaging 309mpg, never fully warming up engine, 6gallons of gas, 40mph or less. Extensive use of full grill blocking, and engine block heater, during Az. peak summer months. Maintenance: oil change Mobile 1 synthetic 10-30 every 10,000 miles. One set of spark plugs at 125K (one plug firing out the side), and transaxle lube changed (toyota mechanic said the new lube and the old lube looked identical). One change of engine and inverter coolant. Original brakes have about half life left. One belt replaced just for grins. Best car I've ever owned in the last 42 years by a factor of 2, most miles I've put on a car by 50K, least repairs by far, least maintenance. I will never buy another car with a standard auto transmission (I've had to rebuild 6 transmissions, including two on Honda's). Will try to take this Prius to 15years. Thanks for the ride Toyota, probably the best engineering effort and most significant for transportation since Diesel Electrics repaced Steam Locomotives in the mid 40,s, (both efforts reduced overall costs of ownership in half).
Quarter Mil Turned over 250,000 this morning in my Black 04. Original owner. Story from the day I went on the waiting list: I sat down at the salesperson's desk and said "This car is my screen saver. Please have mercy on me". I'm not much of a negotiator No significant engine issues, except when I was broadsided in late 05, and during the repair they missed the damaged thermos. I remember how the tow operator didn't want to move my car fearing electrocution. How things change. Brake pads changed a couple of times, oil changes usually every 10k. I am hard on this car, I guess, but it sure is rugged. My wife claims I "ride it hard and put it away wet", though I don't really speed much in it (would result in poor mileage). Actually, when I brought it in a couple of weeks ago for new snow tires, I had them do a general service. Since then, the service engine light went on (it has never done that under normal conditions) and I've dropped to 41mpg overall (from 47 most of this year), with a clear impact of some kind on available power. I felt that they overcharged something fierce at this dealer and I don't want to let them at it again if I don't have to, so I'm waiting on an OBD II reader to evaluate what's going on. I was waffling about replacement, but now I really want to see the odo stick at 299999! Happy Hypermiling SAC
Hello, everyone! I have 233,000 on my 95 Prius. I hate to admit it, but, I change oil every 10,000 miles or so. My dashboard lights started to go on or off intermittently for the past tear or so. The original hybrid battery is still pretty good. (I average around 42-46 mpg). Unfortunately, tonight, after attempting to jumpstart the battery with my battery pack (Which has worked with previous dead battery incidents in the past few months) my Prius will not start. I guess it s time to change the original 12 volt battery.
Stephen; Any chance they over filled the oil? This will drop your FE. I think I would want to roll her past 300 as well. Good luck. H
Hi everyone, a newbie here on the forum but about year and a half and 130K miles with this fantastic 07 Prius. I'm a Denver cab driver and my baby has 225K now, it's a company car and when I picked it up in Aug 09 had only 97k on it. I mostly work at Denver Intl Airport back and forth to town (for those not familiar with DIA it's about 27 miles to downtown Denver) and put about 1700-1800 miles in an average week, if there is something going on in town like a convention etc then it goes up the 2400-2500 miles a week. I'm all over the town six days a week basically in any kind of weather, snow,rain,hot,ice... you name it. Like I said it's a company car but I treat it like my own always keep it clean shiny smells good oil changes every 6K nobody believes it's 4 years young and has 225K on it, in return brings me a lot repeat business. Never ever left me and my customers stranded on the road, I know the company does absolute minimum basic maintenance on these babies and they still are the most reliable cars in the fleet, we have about 60 of them, about 300 Crown Vics and appx 120 Dodge and Ford vans. I got the maintenance records from the company(not too many drivers ask for it btw) when I first picked it up but Im thinking about getting another print out soon then I will post it here however in my time this baby had a dashboard module changed at about 170K and had a inverter cooler changed at 185K miles. Cruise control started to acting up at 195K and completely quit around 200K. Company is not fixing it because it's not a safety related problem I can comfortably say that I mastered the driving technique for the most efficient Mpg for this baby over the 125K driving and will contribute in the proper pages here in this forum. But FYI I get about 45-46 in colder temperatures city/hwy mix with no or minimum idling and 50-52 mpg in summer months again city/hwy mix. Again I will continue to contribute here as much as I can in the following days. Safe driving everybody.
Thanks for posting your story. 1. If "inverter cooler" means the inverter coolant pump, your company can be reimbursed for that repair since Toyota currently has an LSC (limited service campaign) to replace that pump. 2. The cruise control problem most likely is the switch mounted on the steering wheel column.
Patrick u r right, it is the pump. I don't know about the cost but AFAIK they did the work at company shop. For the cruise control problem I talked to some other prius drivers at the company and some of them have the problem even at a lower mileage like 130K. IIRC some mentioned here it might as well be the switch under the brake pedal so I'm not sure what exactly my car's problem is. I have a mechanic friend and thinking about taking the car to him and hook it up to his computer, do you think I would get a error code reading for this? Thanks
If the brake pedal switch is having a problem that would affect the cruise control, then your brake lights would likely remain on at all times, not just when you depress the brake pedal. However it is easy enough to remove the wiring harness connector from the brake pedal switch and use an ohmmeter to verify that the two switches open and close as you exercise the brake pedal. You would only get a cruise control error code if you can turn the cruise control on so that the CRUISE light appears, and you see the light blinking. If the light does not come on at all, or if it comes on solid but you cannot invoke the cruise function, then my guess is that the column-mounted switch is the problem. There's not much to the cruise control system because the hybrid vehicle ECU contains that functionality. Hence, the only additional parts are the column-mounted switch and the brake pedal switch.
229,0025 miles I have had 7 Supra's before this car (83,84,87,86.5,90,88,96) so I know Toyotas are great. Truly fun car to drive, I bought used with 135k, it was aution car and looked like everything on it was original. Other than below, replaced front wheel bering (160k), rear wheel bearing(190k), serpentine belt(190k), a/c needed a charge last year, so probably have slow leak somewhere 1) Did you replace the HV battery pack? yes, bought car used with red triangle - I pulled pack and replaced a bad cell and worked fine, then 50k later I rebuilt whole pack with GenII batteries 2) Did you replace the 12v lead-acid battery? yes - today 3) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid? no 4) Did you replace the brake pads? no 5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)? N/A but usually run around 40mpg (I drive it like regular car), can get over 50mpg but no one wants to be in the car when I do 6) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use? Use quaker state full synthetic, 7,500 miles, uses 1/2 quart between changes 7) How about post a picture of 200,000 miles on ODO?
Can you point me to the info here or other sites that walks me thru changing the wheel bearing; I searched here and didn't find it. Thanks in advance! In the meantime, I'll find a repair manual on eBay. My 2001 has 145k, and want to make it well over 200k (smile)!
I have a 2004 Prius and have just reached the limits of my odometer at 299,999. I will be replacing the odometer as the car still runs great. I have replaced the little battery and Toyota just replaced the Hybrid water pump, but other than routine maintenance, I haven;t had any major breakdowns yet. I use Amsoil and have for almost 200,000 miles. I bought the car in 2007 with about 55,000 miles on it. I am a volunteer driver and travel about a thousand miles a week with it. I am using some oil, but at this mileage, I am not surprised. I'll continue driving until it either drops dead or I get it paid for, another $9700 or so. I think it will last, lol.
There is 299,999+ mile club. I added you to the list. Thanks for confirmation that 2004 is affected also. FYI, 2005 has the same issue but not 2009 model. I like to know if 2006 is affected as well. I don't think so since they released a mid-cycle refresh for 2006.
Since my car still runs well and it would be more convenient, I will have the odometer replaced. I read somewhere else on this site about asking if I can get an "upgraded" odometer that will go over 300k and have Toyota set it to my current mileage. I'll call them tomorrow and let you folks know that answer. I was quoted $500 for the parts and about 180 for labor, but they had previously e-mailed me a $10 gift certificate and a coupon for money off parts and repairs that will bring the price down almost a hundred. I change my oil every 25,000 but the filter every 5000. I am thinking of going to the Amsoil filters which state that they are guaranteed for 25k as well. Then I can change oil and filter 2-3 times a year.
200,487 on my 2006 two weeks ago *bought July '06 with #6 option* Lifetime mpg ~50mpg Major reapairs-MFD&radio head (under Priuschat extended warranty! Thank you) Minor reapairs- 110k HID bulbs started going out, $90 pair from eBay still going OK No, Toyota, I'll never pay you $280/bulb plus $250 to install by removing the bumper. Windshield at 180k due to a zillion pits and one new big crack from a rock ($250). Oil-dino for first 20k, then Mobil One every 5k up to 100k, then Mobil one every 10k Transaxal fluid changes-25k, 100k, 150k, due for another one Tires-Michelin X-Radial, best at everything, hands down Best mod-3M clear bra footnote-I put 90k miles on my 04, so I'm now approaching the 300k driver threshold What it needs-new shocks, they get firmer with age(?)
I wish I could find this out on my 2006 quicker. I'm only at 236k or so and don't drive much anymore.
