At the Chevron station near my residence:

Regular: 237.9
Mid-Grade: 249.9
Premium: 259.9

This is in the heart of Silicon Valley, CA. Costco and Arco have regular for 219.9.

Interestingly, there was an item on NPR today regarding the varying price of gas around the U.S. New Jersey came up as the cheapest.

Of special interest, it turns out that CA has higher prices than neighboring states even though it has lower gas taxes. Why? Because the gas wholesalers know the people in 'car loving (sic)' CA will pay it.

 

In West Oz (Perth) prices for unleaded fuel are currently just nudging over Au$1.00/Litre.
After the multiple conversion calculation, (US Gall/Imp Gall/Litres/Currency) this works out be equivalent to about US$3.00/US Gallon.
It is forecast to stay at that level and higher!

I expect the European prices would be even higher.

Going price here on the west coast of Canada is 97 1/2 cents a liter. Did some judisish shopping tonight and got it for 89.7 a liter. I think that works out to about $3.552 a US gallon. $3.861 at the regular price.

 

cheapest around here.. well.. the entire peninsula and south bay area.. is about 2.23.. for 87.. and the highest i've seen it go for was somewhere around 2.79 a gallon for 87

you can probably find gas for more in San Francisco.. it's rising slowly but surely... not good seeing i drive 150 - 200 miles a day.. and don't make enough profit to pay for fuel as it is.. stupid work.

Gasoline is formulated differently in CA than elsewhere, due to clean air regulations. California refineries barely have the production capacity to keep up with the market demand. Very few out of state suppliers have the ability to provide fuel that meet the CA ARB specifications. The law of supply and demand dictates our higher prices.

 

$2.11 at Hess in Spring Hill, FL last night.

 

Here in Indiana the lowest price seema to be 2.09. Some stations are up to 2.14 :x

so if it is because of CARB specifications, how come gas in NY is not the same as California?

i think you will find that NY is 2nd as far as cost so not a long way behind.

 

Seems NY is quite a bit lower. Probably not #2.

 

Surprisingly, Nevada appears to be #2 in the continental US. There are a number of western & midwestern states that are on a par with NY. But NY appears to be the highest among eastern states. Of course none of these come close to comparing with the reported costs in Europe and some other areas.

 

Personally I'd love to see gas at $2.15-$2.25 a gallon as it would cut my expenses by about 30% and that'd be really nice. $3.50 -$3.90 right now 180 miles north of Seattle, Washington.

 

Yes. I did this one last comparison before your post. We in the USA are a bit spoiled and should try not to complain so much. No gas user likes to see prices rise but we do seem to have a price advantage compared to many other nations.
