Saved not literally but insurance / accident wise.

1st time: I was rear ended and pushed into a van in front of me. The insurance companies had to figure out if I hit the Van first and then rear ended. Had the video to prove I was at a complete stop. The insurance of the 3rd vehicle accepted all liability.

2nd time: Was exiting the freeway and a car exited last second without looking and hit my driver side fender. Car never stopped so I followed while calling the cops. Gave his plate # and was told to stop following. Cops never found (or tried to find) the vehicles owner. Contacted my insurance and provided the video. My insurance contacted the owner who denied any involvement. They ended up getting the owners insurance, providing the video and paying for my damages.

For less than $100 total (dashcam and install kit - optional) I've saved myself money and more importantly aggravation.

Nice that it has been so helpful, sucks you found yourself in that situation, twice!

How do the dash-cams work? Are they attached to a hard drive somewhere? Never even given this a thought before.

Works off of a micro sd card. When it's full it loops back records over the old recording. I have a 32 gb card in mine but I'm sure the newer ones can handle more memory.
