Attention, simply enough. It's a toy to play with. He likely did the same thing that was done in this thread and failed but left it on for the "cool" factor. I'm betting at this point the turbo is hooked up to the exhaust but not the intake anymore. Why else would be post cryptic instagram videos like an exhaust turbo sound video and not answer any questions.

He said he's using some generic ECU that seems to be for just about any car, so I can't see how that would work in a Prius.

Here are three only pictures I've recieve from him. He mentions the ECU type in one of the picture comments from a few months back.

    I just had a thought....

Has anyone considered that perhaps the ECU just didn't like the sudden blast of air when the electric supercharger kicked on?

If I'm not mistaken, the one in this thread only activated on WOT?

Perhaps a slower boost buildup is what's needed and the ECU was just seeing a sudden surge of air and may have tripped an error when a much higher amount of fuel was needed to correct AFR?

I believe i tried that. I have a knob that can control the ESC to the electric supercharger. I would WOT then slowly turn the knob to 100% from 0%. I tried ramping it up at different speeds with no luck.

@RightOnTime was even nice enough to rip my knob off the dash board that one time I visited him on a weekend.

I don't understand this, looks like a lot of knowledgeable people, doing a turbo on a Prius, I would newer know what and how to do that kind of upgrade on an engine. But one thing that I know for certain is no matter how much more power you get from that engine, the bottleneck will always be PSD with the power of the two MGs (or their PCU).

Main problem with turboing the prius, is that, noone have yet to succeed modifying the ECU to "accept" the boost from what i know.., whenever the boost and preasure comes, the engine close the throttle. It block it off on purpose, im starting to think it is to protect the planetary gear... Theyre not exactly made for high preasure boosts lol.

Surely it's the keep the car in compliance with the most stringent CARB emissions standards, right? Such a bizarre thing for a car company to ensure despite the trends. I'm starting to fear that the only ultimate performance upgrade for a Prius is an ol' school PHEV kit that could keep delivering peak output and keep itself cool under hard driving. And that's really just extra weight at the tail end.

Regarding protecting the PSD, it's been long said about its fragility regarding peeling the car with TC off, but there's very rarely any trouble with the planetary gear box. Admittedly mine's starting to feel clunky when accelerating from a glide. It'll be ridiculously overkill if that was the excuse of Toyota's engineers, but that's to be expected, right?

I doubt it's planetary gears alone, the MG1 and MG2 are rated what they are rated and they act as a CVT transmassion. It's the same thing if you had a 50 kW generator mounted on the engine and then through electrical path you would drive the 50 kW motor connected to the wheels, nothing nice would have happened with this setup if you would beef up the engine to 80 kW.

Anecdotally, I've autocrossed my Prius dozens of times with TC off, wheels spinning and constant wide open throttle driving and havent had any issues. That said I'm only at 110k miles.

If I'm not mistaken, the CT200h uses exactly the same motor and drive system as the Prius, which puts out 98 hp at 5,200 rpm with 121 hp total compared to the CT200h with 98 hp at 5,200 rpm with 134 hp total. It seems there's at least a small bit of overhead there.

CT200h uses Gen3 Prius drivetrain and is rated same as Gen3 Prius (engine 74 kW, system 100 kW). Gen 4 Prius is a little down on power with sistem power 121 HP.

Sure there may be some overhead, but how much? Also consider that there were quite a few Inverter failures in Gen3 Prius as it is, "overclocking" it by 10% -20% will not be healthy.

The CT200H is faster than the prius tho, even tho i weighs the same, has the same amount of torque and HP of a 134... CT200H here does 0-100kmt in 8.5 seconds, while the prius does it in 9.8
What tha hell is the difference between them that makes over a second difference?

Some sort of gearing of the transmission...?

I'm looking at the review of 2014 CT 200h, and it did 0-100 kph in 11.3 s.

Was there some kind of update in the recent spec?

Maybe, they did the same to the Prius V. If the top speed of the CT200h is less than the Gen3 Prius, that would show it.

ECU mapping makes sense for every other car out there, but have we ever known if that exists for us Prius owners?
