There are very few vehicles in this class though that can claim 40 mpg, regardless. Hybrid trim is really going to sell well, imho.

My wife took one look at the picture I posted; said she liked the silver one.

thanks everyone for the great discussion! Maybe we could use this post for when and if people begin to see them on dealership showrooms and lots? Would love to see pictures, test drive impressions, too? Thanks all!

Recall that spy shot back in 2017 that looked like a Prius SUV.

True. But they decided against it, right?

I have not heard either, which I kinda assumed meant it wasn't happening? Maybe I am wrong. I just assumed with new rav4 hybrid that they wouldn't do it.

    Ohh.

Well I mean since SUVs and crossovers are still the hot items, it would make sense for Toyota to attempt a crossover Prius and see how that works out.

Would be very interesting if they did. I have not heard any further details at all about it. I wonder if they would consider replacing the CHR which has not sold well in the US market.

The Lexus UX AWD Hybrid is pretty close to being a Prius crossover. It is based on the CH-R, is one inch shorter than the Prius, slightly less rear leg room, a lot less hatch room, It has 2.0 L engine, 39 combined mpg. Of course, positioned as a Lexus, it is a lot more expensive.

I was disappointed when the Gen 4 Prius came out with less rear leg room than my gen 3, so even less leg room in the UX is unfortunate.

One thing I found odd is that the UX hybrid and the Rav4 Hybrid get almost the same mileage despite Rav4 being bigger, heavier, having a bigger engine (2.5 vs 2.0) and more horse power (219 vs 181) with quicker 0-60 time. Both are new vehicles, so I;m not sure how they did that. Rav4 Hybrid mpg: 41 City, 37 highway. UX hybrid: 41 City, 38 highway.

Hmm. Never seen the UX hybrid but in photos in looks tiny. You are right, very unfortunate that it does not offer much utility for small families. I think the cargo room is also considerably smaller than our current honda crv.

The CH-R and hypothetical Prius crossover will target different demographics so it doesn’t necessarily have to replace the CH-R.

If Toyota won’t do a RAV4 PHV, then maybe a Prius Prime X will have to do. (*my made up name for a Prius plug in crossover)

Europe is getting a hybrid of the new Corolla Sportwagon, which could have been under the camo in the 'Prius v' spy shots.

Hybrids are a tough sell in the US, and the Prius v did poorly here. Toyota likely could decide it isn't worth the expense to introduce.

The UX engine is an old port injected one. The Rav4 has the new DS4, hybrid port and direct injection, making it a more powerful and efficient engine.

I agree that it was a tough sell in the US market, but so is the Prius right now when gas is 1.99 a gallon. I just think it would be wise to have the extra cargo hold as a corolla wagon or calling it a Prius V again. They were also heavily used by taxi (uber and lyft too) and limo services. I think it would be really interesting to have it. I would prefer it be a corolla hybrid wagon, vs a prius V.

That's disappointing for a new, expensive vehicle. It will be interesting to see how it sells.

The unpainted arches are horrible, I believe they are painted on the top trim hybrid.
Totally beyond belief that there is no Android Auto, it's a deal breaker for me.
