17" Modellista wheels available

Indeed, in my gen2 there is a roughly 10% difference between the dash speedometer and the GPS speed shown by the “nerd maintenance secret menu” on the screen. Stock wheels. Maybe that’s one of the reasons why we’re sometimes regarded as driving slow?

 

Here's what the 17" Modellista looks like on a Prius:

It seems to fill the wheel well nicely (unlike the 15" wheels of previous gens), but the design itself isn't up my alley, so perhaps another and much lighter 17" aftermarket would do the trick.

 

I don't love the stock wheels but I don't like these ones at all.

 

I drove myself crazy looking for a really lightweight wheel for my 2013 Plug-in, and I'll probably do it all over again if I get a new Prime.

 

I've just found out what the OEM 17" Plug-in wheels look like in EU, different and prettier than in the US.
No indication if they will be equipped with the aero plastic cover.

 

It is the same wheels and wheel covers in every country across the world. Japan also gets a 17" steel-wheel option with different wheel covers.

 

Then, how did the LE wheels look like again?

 

Ah, OK, typical Prius wheels.

Could those Euro wheels be owner modification? They don't even look like 17" wheels. They look smaller.

 

Here are the OEM 17" wheel and tire vs. these Euro wheel and tire pictured. These Euro wheel and tire seem to be an owner modification. The outer tire diameter is about 2" smaller. There is a lot of gap between the tire and fender and the bumper is very close to the ground.

 

I bet bloke with photoshop is the correct one the sidewall is too short for the 17" and there are two disc brakes...

However, the wheels themselves are legit. Basically, there are two kind of OEM 17 rims, my take is the usual ones that @Gokhan posted are those that will come with the cars also in Europe. There was a pic with the others on the Toyota German website but they removed it (but I saved it , here you go)

You can order these if you want @Maxwell61. The usual ones with the wheel covers should cost about 800 €, the others around 1200 € (I've peeked at my dealer pc)

 

I can clarify, those 17" rim i've posted comes from an official Toyota accessories site, and the pic posted by @reallyreal for me confirms these are the standard EU rims. In the website are sold as spare and the 19" are the OEM also. And yes, perhaps they've been photoshopped and look strange.

Huuuge difference in price, if you damage one: 280 Eur for the OEM 17", 695 EUR for the 19". Happy i've just ordered the 17" version.

Whether the rims should be the US ones, i'll buy an aftermarket cover i've already posted.
But perhaps i'll buy the cover anyway to see how it looks.

 

OK, they are not factory OEM wheels but OEM-accessory wheels.

But then you probably won't get the same fuel efficiency as with wheel covers. Moreover, who wants black wheels?

1) It doesn't make sense that the accessory site offers the OEM 19" and an alternative 17"
2) It doesn't make sense that an official Toyota website post a photo with an alternative 17".
3) According to the experiments on the Tesla M3, those aeros doesn't give a lot and i'm more than happy to trade it for a good look.

Yes, i found black wheels disgusting. I'll first try to see if the bicolor wheel covers i've found look good or i'll paint in silver the esisting one.

Aero wheel covers make a huge difference in fuel efficiency (3.4% for Model 3). I would keep them on.

The difference for the Tesla is 2,5-3% till 70 mph (which is more or less my top speed) and the difference in the covered aerea btw the naked wheel and the aero of the Tesla wheel is a lot larger than the difference btw the Prius aero and my selected plastic cover. I evaluate no more than 1,5% and frankly i found the Prius aero so horrible to destroy the car's beauty. I'll pay for the 1,5%, no probs
