Fuel economy?! that would imply I'm burning gas! TBH, I'm only at 1300km, and except for about 50km coming home from the dealer (ran out of charge) it's all been electric. I haven't been monitoring the electricity consumption the way I should be. Charging at off peak hours when it's the least expensive...
I don't drive at 10/10ths or even 7/10ths in Toronto traffic. So I really don't notice a difference. Was happy to get home safely today with ice pellets falling on the 401.
I checked and US Costco cards are good in Canada. Considering a weekend trip North for the wheels and tires. I believe I can apply for a VAT refund in Canada. Next, figuring out how to order the rims to deliver to a Costco store in Canada. I hope it's like ordering tires to one in the US. Final question is the tpms. I've read in this site about clone (aftermarket) tpms units. It might be easier than tracking down and re registering (diy) a new set
i honestly didn't think the wheels were THAT special.... As far as I know it's easy to get the new set of TPMS to talk to the car. they were allegedly available in the US... but not in most provinces in Canada.
Steel C rims are $74 CAD @ Costco. Haven't found anything less than $120 USD each here that I know will fit.
i'm looking at the costco.com website: $150-175 off per set of wheels. 16" size doesn't come up on their configuration program... but maybe worth calling them? https://veloxwheel.com/order/select-wheel?vehicle=58243 Sure makes me feel like i did well (price wise) with mine.
Lots of helpful information here, and big thanks to you all who've posted pictures! Looking at possibly getting a 2023 model here in a few years and I was curious of 15s or 16s would fit....17+ inch tires are typically twice the cost and somewhat defeat the purpose of having an economical car. Looks like 205/65R16s on something like a Camry or Prius V wheel is the way to go unless less expensive quality tires become available in the default LE size. Makes no sense to me why the 2023 comes with 17" and 19" wheels....16s would be big enough and maybe offer 18s on the Limited as a package option....but I digress.
Speedo would be off and you’d lose some ground clearance. The 205/65/16s give pretty well the original diameter and the 205 isn’t overly wide, nothing rubs with the wheel cranked hard over.
overall diameter is - 2 (for the two sidewalls of the tire) *0.65 (the profile)*205 (tire width in mm) + wheel diameter in inches (16") 2* 0.65*205>2*0.65*185 this tire calculator's pretty user friendly: Tire size calculator
As for the speedometer calibration with different size tires... My LE on the 17's is registering about 2 miles an hour slower than Waze. This is all the time at highway speeds. Additionally, as discussed on another post my cruise control keeps the car at the set speed -1 MPH. Still eying those C steel rims for a winter setup.
205s are a lot more readily available. I switched from 175/65R15s to 185/65R15s on my C because the same set of tires was almost $100 cheaper after tax in this size, and MPG is around the same. The new Prius is just designed to look good with larger wheels -- part of that futuristic design I suppose, but I'd be much happier if it came standard with 15s or 16s and was designed to look good with them.
Yeah I looked around and it looks like for 16 inch wheels you gotta get 205s. Sucks because I wish there were so narrow ones. Better for aero and less rolling resistance and better snow handling
