12v battery at drive-in movie

I had an android burner that required headphones to be plugged in to serve as the FM antenna, but once connected you could go into the audio settings and route the radio output to the loudspeaker.

 

I realize I'm late to this discussion, but I'll add my 2 cents for posterity.

No need to charge up to 100% for a movie in Ready mode, even if you're running the AC or heat. In anything but extreme (0F nights or 100F days) conditions, a Prime at 100% usually lasted me 8 to 15 hours in EV Ready, running the climate control, before the engine kicked on I always use outdoor air, never recirc/max, so that will also help you keep from fogging up the windows at the drive-in!

How long you get, totally depends upon the weather and how much AC/heat you run. For 4 hours at the movies, you'll normally be fine showing up with half your EV range left, though the first time, sure, show up at 80% (from Charge Mode) or 100% (from plugging in) and do the experiment for your own weather conditions and climate control preferences.

Though never having lived in a vehicle or been homeless myself, I have several awesome online friends who live in a Prius now, or used to. Personally, I don't hesitate to sleep in the Prime whenever a favorable situation for that arises. Which for almost 2 years before the pandemic, was usually at least 1 night per week, sometimes 2. Not having to drive a couple of hours home after a long day or if wanting to return the next day, and not having to deal with finding a hotel in a super expensive area on the most expensive night or two of the week on my own dime, was awesome. Can't wait to hit the road for a month or two of Prius camping out west this winter, where I'll be living in (and outside of) the car in all sorts of fun places.

 

OptimalPrime how/where did you sleep in the Prime?

 

Prior to the pandemic, it was normally at or near casinos, where I played poker from 2 to 5 days per week as a hobby and income supplement when semi-retired.

Update: In July 2021, I took a 27-night road trip of about 8000 miles in the 17 Prime. I spent 2 nights at a friend's house in Utah, and 25 nights in the Prime, including 17 of them in Quartzsite, AZ....where it happens to be extremely hot in July. Daily high temps were usually 110F+, often 115-119F, and temps overnight, according to the car, were rarely below 100F. Sometimes outdoor air temps were down in the 90s at night, but between being on hot ground and keeping the car Ready 24/7 for climate control purposes, which meant the car generated heat under/around itself, the temp the car saw basically stayed 100+ around the clock.

The car was a champ. It didn't use a drop of oil despite going 8000 miles and being on for almost 700 hours. I changed the oil soon before and soon after the trip. It wouldn't have been a bad idea to change the oil halfway through the trip, but I neither felt like having it done commercially, nor crawling around on oven-temperature ground to do it myself.
