12 volt battery change and alot of water under it

drilling holes isn't needed as there are already holes in both wells and the spare tire area, they have rubber plugs that can be pushed out and I spray some rubber under coating around the hole to prevent rust..

 

Doing some routine maintenance, I decided to remove and clean the hybrid battery blower fan.

When I removed the covers for the spare wheel and battery I found a lake of water in each area.

This was the second Prius that I’ve done in two days, and both had water in the same areas.

Therefore, this required further investigation, resulting in me finding threads such as this.

The two rubber plugs under the spare wheel are easy to see.

But, I couldn’t easily see any plugs for the battery area.

I reached under the back corner of the car and felt something that felt like a rubber plug.

Some force on that pushed it out, and water started to drain.

However, this didn’t drain the entire battery area.

Looking down inside the battery area, I saw what appeared to be another rubber plug, so I pushed down on it with a screwdriver until it pushed out and fell to the ground under the car.

Then the battery area drained fully.

Considering the amount of water that had built up in the battery area, I’m undecided on whether to put the plugs back in.

I’m inclined to leave them out.

Ideally, I’d love some sort of one-way valve, so that water can drain out but outside water can’t get back in when driving.

This is the rubber plug that came from the drain hole closer to the front of the car. I originally pushed this downward with a screwdriver on the inside of the car.



I’ve got the usual cracks up around the top of the rear tailgate frame.



For cleaning the blower fan, I found that cotton sticks were good at loosening the dirt on the fan blades.
