    At what approximate mileage does the dreaded brake actuator give up the ghost? That's a big $ repair I understand.

    Hello,
    I am Raul, from Romania.
    I own and drive a 2006 red Prius Executive.
    Now it have 280 000 km, meaning around 175 000 miles.
    During the last year:
    - i changed the front shock absorbers, front and back brake disks
    - change the engine oil, the gearbox oil and all the filters.
    -and now i replaced 2 battery cells.

    Just purchased a 2004 #9 Prius with the dreaded warning triangle on with HV battery code and bad 12v . I work as a auto tech here in Oregon and this vehicle was towed to our shop after sitting many years unused (tabs expired 2015 ) 166k rough miles on it customer didn't want to fix it so gave it to shop owner (it was put in storage area until a decision was made what to do with it) .We had another 2007 132k towed in month or so later with bad HV battery which a new Toyota Battery was sold and installed out the door it went so I had this HV battery sitting on my bench ,never opened one up so started googling and decided to look inside, lots of corrosion on buss bars which I took off and started measuring voltages on the cells and after watching how to charge and cycle them started messing about with them (lightbulb went off in my head think about the prius in storage lot and rebuilding its battery). Next day what gets towed in but a 2006 Prius with only 70k and another bad HV code , I had also learned how to read the HV battery scan data and watch the cell voltages so ran a couple full throttle accel runs in reverse (best load test) while graphing the battery cell voltages and it confirmed which cell was bad on low mileage batt pack (for liability issues a new battery was installed and out it went) . I now had two batteries on my bench. Having learned all this I took data i had and swapped four of the best cells from first battery into low mileage unit and put it into the freebie pruis on my own time and it's all happy now so purchased the vehicle from my boss and it's now my daily commuter 1000 miles later no battery issues and voltages inside are all even(went from 24 mpg AWD sedan to 50mpg on my 28 mile commute to work, was looking at going all electric but this will make a good transition vehicle)

    Had a dead MFD which i had circuit board connector reflowed at local computer shop and it now works perfectly ,has navigation and 9 speaker CD system . Body is a bit rough but it's perfect for a commuter. Looking forward to many more miles on this Prius

    Fingers crossed! Mine died just before the ZG2 warranty expired, thankfully, at ~149,000 miles, just fyi. They replaced it even without the dash lights because the symptoms were exactly the same.

    Very late to the party, as my 2006 Gen 2 was a low mileage car (10 miles a day) for 3/4ths of its life. But I caught up in a hurry now that it's a 100 miles/day car.

    Purchased new, January of 2006. Hit 100,000 miles in Sept 2019. Lifetime mileage is ~47mpg.
    (I've never kept a car to 100,000 miles before, so yes, I took a picture at 999999 and 1000000)
    Runs in good condition, but it shows its age in many other ways.
    On my second traction battery, installed at about the 10 year mark.
    #*%( these HID headlights, of all the fancy things on the car, these are the only things to have given me any grief, over and over, to this very day.
    No hybrid problems, no MFD problems, no brake work, none of the things that were considered new and strange and potential future failure points back in 2006 have given me any grief.
    Very few minor things as well - On my 3rd 12v battery, the rubber cover on the hatchback release keeps falling off and being glued back on, and I had the trunk release spring go out on me - that was amusing. Maybe on my 5th set of tires? (I've lost count)

    All and all, exceeds expectations in the trouble free category. Except for those damn headlights.

    I am however looking forward to something new, I just haven't decided what. I may turn traitor and go Honda Hybrid next time, and if I do, it will mostly be because of the current state of Entune - I hope Toyota knows the disaster they've inflicted upon themselves there.

    If you get tired of monkeying with the hatch release cover, they make an inexpensive replacement. I put this on my wife's '07. You will want to take the plastic off the inside of the hatch to get to the back of the garnish and install it properly, but it was worth it to me to get it working and feeling like it should.

    My 2007 Gen 2 is currently at 144,789 mi. No problems what so ever. It's on it's 2nd set of tires. Still going strong on the original battery pack, each module(set of two cells) reads 16.xx Volts. 12V replaced last year. That's about it. I am currently doing 1100 miles/week, so hopefully will reach 200,000 pretty soon. fingers crossed....

    Welp, I am the brand new owner of a 2008 Prius with 111,063 miles. I guess it qualifies to be here even though I don't :)

    My 2006 Prius now has 271670km on the clock, that's about 169,000 miles I think and the last 40ltr tank of petrol we got 1,850km before we needed to refill. It has an extra plug in 10kWh battery in where the spare tyre normally fits and any trips less than 100km (62 miles) where the limit is less than 80km/h (50mph) we drive all electric and recharge during the day from our 7mtr motorhome's solar and lithium batteries powering a 3kva inverter. We could have got more but there were a few trips where 110km/h (70mph) was required so it used the petrol engine as well as the battery for the first 100kms, then all the normal Prius functions took over.
    It is getting real warm over here, so the air con is running every time we are in the car, so that adds a bit as well, but we were real happy with the 1800km and 2.1ltrs per 100km range indicated. We very rarely get less than 1,000km to the tank full, ratbag driving uses a lot more fuel :lol: but it is fun

    I replaced mine today -- easily done, but I have black gunk all over my hands that does not come off even with scrubbing. My advice is that you should replace the hatch release cover long before you think it needs doing (before it turns to mush) and wear gloves!

    Good advice!! That stuff is NASTY!! I think I had to use paint thinner.

    The goo left behind if you have to replace a failed window molding is similar.

    Just ran across this thread, while looking for another problem
    My wife surprised me with her choice of a Prius.
    Gen 2 2008 owned since new has 187K+ miles on it. Gas average 46+ mpg over all. (wife gets better mpg, I pull it down)
    Typical maintenance, tires, brake pads, etc
    Typical gas ( guess) gauge issue, it has more fuel in it than the light indicates.
    Had to get a new water pump about 10K miles ago
    Had some squirrels eat thought some wires, had all kinds of warning lights going off. $300 later at a shop cured that. (And a .410 shot gun lol)
    Need a new 12V battery. This site has taught me how to replace it. A BIG thank you!! Will be doing that this upcoming week. reason below.

    Yesterday, loaded up the car, heading out for some golf, Car started, forgot something, turned it off, went inside, came out and nothing!!! No start, No lights, nothing even with FOB inserted in key slot. Switched cars, played a horrible round of golf. Came home, Jumped started it under the front hood with the lawn mower battery ( 2nd time I've had to do that) :D drove it around to get a 12V charge. Decided to put a trickle charger on it.

    After an hour went to check it. All seemed fine. Car started, but when the car was turned off, there was a new flashing light on!!. WTH?? This morning came here to figure out the new light, It's not mentioned in the owners manual, that I can find. Flashing light with the key symbol, And it's the stupid immobilizer light. LOL We never had the dealer turn it on. Yet, somehow the trickle charger(?) may have turned it. LOL I don't know.

    After I change the 12V battery, I'll get to see what lights come on, lol, and if disconnecting the negative post will reset the gas gauge. (as has been the solution reported on this site)

    and BTW, years ago wife's new job required a car newer than 5 years. and once again she picked a Prius. I didn't mind. The '08 was doing great. The best vehicle I ever owned was a 4 Runner, got 400k miles out of it!! The last 20K was after selling it to my god son-cheap- it died a horrible death with a deer and a ditch, he was not hurt.

    Her 2012, Gen 3? owned since new, has 162K miles. ave mpg 48+, regular maintenance, tires, brake pads etc. No squirrel problems lol Running great. She wants a new car, I'll be selling the '08 and using the '12.

    so we have 2 in the 100k club

    Awesome hiking trip in Slovenia - Definitely not a Prius friendly country due to the mountains but it coped with it with awesome average fuel consumption 5l/100 km, (47 mpg) in a 1200 km (750 mile) trip with 3 people, AC on, and lots of highway.

    Our family has four Priuses (2004, 2005, two 2006s) with a combined run of 913k kms (570k miles).

    This one on the image is my 2005 with 140k miles. Bought it used a little over a year ago. ABS actuator, front-rear brakes, 12V battery, regular water pump needed changing.

    The inverter coolant pump was changed via the recall.

    The car has a quite interesting story. It started its life in Denmark where it was only first registered in 2008. It must have been a show car. Then it was exported into the Netherlands from where in 2014 was exported to Hungary, where I bought it from the first owner.

    Since its was first registered in 2008, it still had the hybrid battery warranty until 2019 May period!

    Went to have the bus bars changed as maintenance in a hybrid shop and we saw something very strange. There were marks on some of the modules, indicating, some of them were changed. But how could that be if there was a live warranty for it back in time?

    The theory is Toyota changing themselves some modules at the yearly hybrid pack check services after which they grant you the yearly warranty. All in all, to keep up the great PR of hybrids as in general, the packs might fail before 10 years. But that's just a theory.

    Hey guys, I have what seems to be a very unique problem with my 2005 Prius that is around 150,00 miles. My Prius keeps going into problem mode, as in red triangle of death, and the car will not shift into gear. There is no check engine light, and when I brought it to a shop that I have found of very high quality, they were not able to find any issue even after the deep scan. They legitimately sounded flustered as they could not find what was wrong.(They ended up replacing the 12v and just resetting the car, but this didn’t help much because less than two weeks later I’m in the same position) My theory is that one of the computer components is having some kind of recurring undetectable glitch that is putting the car in problem mode. Again, the car is completely fine in every other way, and a deep scan could not find anything wrong. Any information would be very helpful.
