100,000 Mile Club

    No, because once the Prius is READY, it is up to the DC/DC converter within the inverter to provide power on the 12V bus, and the voltage on the 12V bus should be ~13.8VDC. If much lower, you would see various warning lights appear.

    2004 (Dec) Prius. Just passed 100k last month. Bought it in 2006 with 17,000 miles on it. My wife ran it until the 3rd child growing out of her stage 2 car seat prompted a switch to something roomier (2004 Fiat Multipla). I've put up 26,000 miles in the year since.

    Largely trouble free. Had a bit of hassle a few years back with intermittent starting, replaced 12V battery at the time in effort to fix. Turned out to be dodgy brake switch, as diagnosed on here (thanks Patrick Wong!).
    Had an IGI Relay module relay go bad in 2010, fixed by main dealer at a cost of €800 (mostly labour + tax in tracing the fault). Both of those problems were caused by pitted contacts on the relays.

    Replaced RH rear hub recently due to ABS sensor going bad.

    Currently have a fault with the battery blower motor circuit. I've bodged a fix by wiring the blower to the lights via a relay to keep the battery temp below 35deg C. This bodge stops the ECU demanding the fan to switch on which triggers a cascade of faults. I think its a cracked wire between the fan relay and the ECU but I haven't been able to trace it yet.

    Car has averaged around 50mpg (imp) across its life. There is a notable variation in economy between summer and winter, with the tank averages going from 46 to 54 from winter to summer. It did better with my wife driving as I spend a lot of time on the motorway (130ish kph) where the Prius is less happy. I fitted cruise control to help with the motorway driving but I find it quite thrummy once you go beyond 110kph and it'll only do about 44mpg at speeds beyond 120kph.

    My only real gripe is the drivers seat. I can often cover 400miles in a day and I find the drivers seat quite poor on long trips. I also run a 99 Range Rover and you can step out of it after a long journey feeling fresh and ready for more whereas not so with the Prius (mind you the extra money in my pocket eases the pain).

    Overall though we've loved the Prius experience. My wife still takes it any chance she gets. Now that I've got Techstream to cover the diagnostics side of things for future problems I'll be happy to run it for another 100k.

    Finally! 100,000 miles.

    2008 Package 2, bought new from the dealer.

    Only problem other than normal maintenance was the fabric came off the center arm rest. Went to JoAnn Fabrics, found some simlar material and padding, and glued on myself. Still running on original brake pads.

    Average mpg just under 50. A little above 50 in summer and a little below in the winter. Mostly highway driving. 20131025_155234.jpg

    I am now the proud member of the 100,000 mile club. It took almost ten years. I have a 2004. I have never been more happy with a car. Very few problems to report. The multi-display did go out a number of years ago but that was replaced under warranty. I also had the fuel pump issue, which was also resolved. Other than that, smooth sailing. [​IMG]

    I spoke a little too soon on the maintenance of my car. I took it in for the 100,000 mile service today and was told that the front lower ball joints were torn and leaking. That upped the bill quite a bit. I talked to the mechanic and he said the car looked good otherwise, and that the ball joints going out around 100,000 was normal.

    I bought my 2008 Prius with almost 50,000 miles in December 2010. I don't remember when I hit 100,000 but it was probably about a year ago. I took it in for the 135,000 mile maintenance today and found out I need struts ($700) and new tires. I don't think I have ever replaced the struts. This will be the 2nd time I have replaced the tires (Continentals) and it is possible the worn struts are effecting the tires based on research I have done.

    Prior to this Prius I had a 2001 which lasted me about 140,000 miles. I traded it in after the catalytic converter replaced.

As one of the first posters in 100k mentioned, my goal is to drive less, use less fuel, emit fewer CO2's and save money by extending the life of my vehicle; thereby saving on wear & tear, maintenance, insurance and taxes too!

    Have owned this Prius since about 3/09, when it had about 72k. At that time, it had a history which included a front end accident and a few service "issues". Because of this, I bought it about 4k below KBB value (partly thanks to the low gas price at the time!). I did have a coolant leak after about 1 year, but otherwise it has been trouble free for me. I have only done routine maintenance and proactively replacing the 12v battery before I had trouble.

    I have enjoyed driving the Prius and my MPG has averaged about 48mpg. I have made several long road trips and I (as a TALL driver) find it THE most comfortable car I have driven, especially on those long trips, which sort of surprised me. All the electronics have fared well, as I have the bluetooth and GPS which have been great. No replacements for any of the bulbs or HIDs. The only thing I can complain about is that the brakes tend to grab during wet weather.

    I keep thinking about trading up for a new Prius...we shall see.

    This is overdue. We have 161,000 now on our 2005, which we bought in 2008 with 43,000 miles. Six years of ownership, 118,000 miles, and only two problems that cost us money: front wheel bearing and the CD changer. The latter was the most expensive, $350, when a CD got stuck. Hardly Toyota's fault.
    We love the car, drive it from the Midwest to the West Coast every other year, and to Florida this year. Putting two canoes on top or pulling our sailboat reduces the mileage but it's still better than any other gasoline car. (Our in-town car is battery electric).
    Mpg is usually 52 in summer, 42 in winter, varies directly with the temp. We drive the speed limit, or under when 70 is posted. What's the rush?
    Still wondering when we'll have to do the front brakes or struts! Looking forward to 200,000 or a new Prius.

    Just past the 100,000 miles today in my 2008. The only replacements on the car are rear shocks leaking under guarantee, tyres, 12 volt battery "precautionary measure", and discs all round due to rust "not pads". No photo I'm afraid.

    Is it ok to replace the disc/rotors without replacing the pads?

    If there is plenty of material left on the pads "which there was in my case" you can safely resurface the pads to get there surface flat so that they bed in quickly to the discs using all the surface. I was able to by good branded discs (rotors) in the UK for less than the price of the pads, and with more than 75% of pad ware left only needed to remove about 0.5 mm (.020 inch) to make them reusable. Projected life of what is left of the pads is 150,000 miles.

    I just bought my 2006 Prius with almost 98,000 miles on last Friday. I am taking it from Seattle to Los Angeles this week and hopefully will be able to join this club very, very soon!

    As of yesterday, my odometer passed 100,000 miles. 2006 Prius, package 2.
    All TSBs have been done.
    I have gone thru 2 12v batteries, partly my fault.
    3 accidents, repaired twice.
    Had new struts/shocks in recent trip to dealer. Definitely my fault.
    The car is on its second set of tires.
    I usually drive to work in Huntington Beach, which can be a 30+ minute drive.
    My wife now has a 2014 Prius...she drives further to work.

    2008 with 150000 miles so far, three sets of tires, one 12 volt battery, probley didn't need it but I felt a 5 year battery in Chicago's winters was pressing my luck. Front breaks. Normal maintance.
    BTW moving to Houston area this falland looking for a good shop.
    Still loving this car.

    I'm the second owner of this lovely Prius. Bought it with almost 98,000 miles on it. It was a one owner car with all service records. I just took it for a trip to Los Angeles and back (I'm near Seattle) and it ran like a dream. On the way back, I made 100,000 on Thursday, Feb 13, 2014.

    Third set of tires, original batteries. Work done just prior to my buying it was replacing a transaxle seal, all wiper blades and floor mats.

    I love my Prius! And I'm looking forward to posting in the 200,000 miles thread in the next couple of years as I start my new job this coming Monday and will be commuting 114 miles/day.

    It is running like the day I brought it home very few problems with regular service like synthetic 5-30 oil and new platinum plugs @ 50,000km
    Problems to date,
    1. 100,000 km Nokian Hakkapelitta r2 tires wearing scalloped on rear Very Noisy. Solution; DIY install rear shims to reduce toe in to almost neutral. Replaced the soft ice radials with Bridgestone Ecopia LRR. Toyota dealer was very impressed wheel alignment perfect on spec. Very quiet now and better mileage 4.8 L/100km
    2. 160,000km Check engine light on with code P0420. Catalytic converter out of range. Solution; Seafoam fuel treatment CEL light off
    I have been very impressed with the fuel economy ride comfort and practical convenience. I use it every day at work and treat it like an SUV with the hatchback. Only complaint is the stupid traction control in winter, wheels will stop turning in icy conditions. But this forum has the diagnostic cheat to turn it off which I have used on a few occasions to get the wheels turning on ice. Super city commuter runabout, not great in winter conditions, so my other car is a Ford F150 4WD winter is not a problem any more, I drive the truck in heavy snow and provide tows to pay for increased fuel use.

    Bought my 2004 with 119k so over 100k mile club from the get-go.

    Now over 350k+ miles (odometer quits rolling up and is stuck at 299,999) and just now replaced the battery pack with a used one from a 2008 that had about 109k miles on it, should be good to go for many more thousand miles.

    Have replaced the spark plugs, brakes, shocks, normal stuff, the Catalytic converter throws a code, and oil has to be topped up every thousand miles - does NOT smoke.

    Let this give you with Prius in their youth still great hope for a long long reliable relationship with your brilliant machine.

    Count me in.

    My 2008 Package 2 passed 100k miles today. Only work done was a change of the 12V battery and a drivers side rear wheel bearing. I'm sure driving on quite a few dirt roads doesn't help my situation there. I changed both rear wheel bearings at the same time preemptively around 90k.

    Based on information I've gleaned here, I might start looking at Preventative Maintenance on PSD fluid, spark plugs, and PCV valve/throttle body cleaning. Maybe those will be summer work...

    Hope to keep saving maintenance money with this car for the next 3 years/100K miles...
