How well does that work in rural BC and western AB?

Confirmed that the floor will sit higher for those of us without AWD. I am running a full-sized spare wheel/tire back there.

Instead of modifying the foam, I replaced it with a high density foam that I was hoping would also act as sound absorption. Perhaps it did, but it's still a noisy little car just like all unibody little cars and SUV's made today. At the front of the trunk floor, behind the rear seat, is a cross-member that I mounted a support beam to in order to hold up the removable floor at that end.

Now that I've lived with the full sized spare, and the higher floor, for about a year, it doesn't bother me. I can still fit what I need to back there when the seats are down - which is most of the time.

Well, I do drive through them enough to know how sparse their cellular service can be, which tends to make the CAA / AAA option rather spotty and untimely.

Well, at least before the Pandemic's endless border closure.

Too, when the tow truck guy shows up, it doesn’t really change the variables; you still don’t have a spare, are going to be towed somewhere, with all the expense and hassle, the gooped up tire may be written off, and you need a new goop bottle for a cost that rivals tires.

People seem to so easily forget that during the heart of the pandemic scare - no (NO) roadside service, let alone many times police, were coming to help them if they flatted out. That, alone, should have been a clue to at least have a donut spare in each vehicle.

That the auto makers continue to not put spares in their vehicles suggests that they aren't taking the well-being of their clients health seriously enough. That drivers aren't doing it suggests a worrying lack of awareness.

I do as well, just carry it as cargo in the back. No way I am driving in any remote area without a spare.

To answer the questions in two above posts:

These are the (Corolla 15” steel) rims and (utilitarian, open-ended) lug nuts I purchased in late November 2010, in conjunction with a snow tire package. The rims were $70 CDN apiece (likely more now) and the lug nuts $31 for set of 20.

this is a totally compatible wheel for 3rd and 4th gen, maybe 2nd gen as well, though not sure. Won’t work for 5th gen.

note: such a rim, or the stock rim, with a 195/65R15 tire, does not quite fit in gen 3 spare tire well. I’ve tried it; it kinda fits, but chafes the side walls, ends up riding maybe 2” high.

Look for a Prius Two or Three in a junkyard. you will likely also need the foam pieces to correctly fit the spare tire, etc. back when your car was new, all the pieces listed were in a thread here. I know my 2017 Prius Two ended up in a junkyard. The cars with a spare had a little higher cargo area floor, IIRC.

A full sized sire should fit because it was offered in Israel with a full sized spare tire.

This thread is super old, but I just bought everything from a salvage yard for $60 to convert our previously spareless 2016: OEM donut spare, 3 foam chunks, screw down nut, 2 white plastic retainers, and an extra scissor jack

Which year was the donor vehicle?

Which years are compatible for my 2017 P 4?

Anything from model year 2010 (gen 3 advent) to 2022 (last year of gen 4) is compatible, for the spare tire and rim. Note: gen 3 uses a 16", gen 4 a 17"; both are compatible in outside diameter, and the gen 3 16" is actually very close, closer than the gen 4 17". Even gen 2 rim may be compatible, but I think the tire would be undersized. Also, keep in mind, gen 2 spares you'd definitely want to replace the tire, due to age.

I don't think gen 5 spare rim would work, different bolt circle for starters?

Ther thread I linked to was a 2021 Prius Prime. It was likely a full sized tire & rim though.

Donor was a 2017 (appeared to be a package 2), and mine is a 2016 IV. I am not sure if every other year of the Gen4’s are all like this or not. I also didn’t want a full size spare, as I don’t want the deck floor to be raised up. If I really need a full size spare, I can borrow from my own inventory of 4 winter tires on wheels plus 4 summer tires on additional wheels. The spare I picked up is truly meant to be just for an emergency.

If there was anything additional I should have grabbed from the donor car are the rectangular black plastic retainers that mount in the forward edges of the two outer foam chunks. Mine (from a IV) appear to be too large to go into the foam from the donor package 2.

These black plastic pieces are what hold the fronts of the two outer foam pieces in place. It’s not the end of the world without them, and next time I go to the salvage yard I will grab them.

At least for 2016 & 2016 in the US, the Package Two, (NOT Two Eco), Three, & Three Touring had the space saving spare tires. IIRC the foam under the floor was different too, so if you find a donor vehicle grab that too. The Two Eco, Four, tour Touring and, later, the One had the tire goo kit.

I know my old 2017 Prius Two is likely sitting in a junkyard here in Virginia after getting t-boned by a 4Runner.

Thank you @Mendel Leisk - you rock.
    1) With this spare tire (donut), do I still need the 3-piece Styrofoam?
    2) If it were full wheel, then I need 2016 to 2022? Also need the 3 piece Styrofoam?
    3) 2022-2023 Corolla spare is also a match?
